Review: Wrecked by Cynthia Eden

In New York Times Bestselling Author Cynthia Eden’s gripping new LOST novel, who’s the cat and who’s the mouse…?
SHE LEFT HIM ONCE.
LOST Agent Ana Young was only fourteen when she was abducted by a madman, but unlike many kidnapping victims, she did go home. Now, her mission is to find the missing. But her new case has her on the hunt for the escaped convict who’s obsessed with her. And Ana has an unlikely partner—the sexy, supposedly-by-the-book FBI agent she had one amazing night with and had to forget.
NOW HE HAS TO PROTECT HER 24/7…
FBI Special Agent Cash Knox knows that Ana, the petite, tough-ass former bounty hunter, can get the job done again. But this time, someone else leads them to “Bernie-the-Butcher,” someone who’s been watching Ana. Waiting for her.
FROM A CRAZED KILLER.
Now, catching a deranged murderer means Ana must trust her guarded heart to the gorgeous, complicated G-man she wasn’t supposed to fall for.

Excerpt

“Your boss gave you the company jet,” Cash murmured as he sat across from Ana—in one very plush company jet. “You must have a lot of pull with him.” And, yeah, that was jealousy twisting his guts up but he couldn’t help it.
When it came to Ana Young—Ana Break-My-Heart Young—his emotions were always raw.
At his words, Ana stopped looking at the clouds outside of her window and her head turned toward him. When she locked her dark gaze on him, Cash felt that stare like a punch straight to his gut. Ana wasn’t the kind of woman that a guy forgot, though Cash had sure as hell tried to put their night behind him.
Ana was different.
She was the kind of woman who could wreck a man.
“If you have a question about my relationship with Gabe,” Ana said, her voice clear and easy, “then ask. But don’t make snide-ass comments that are only going to piss me off, okay?”
That was Ana. Straight to the point. A woman who didn’t play games. He could sure respect that. “Are you involved with him?”
“Am I sleeping with my boss? No. He’s married, actually. Quite happily.” Her lips kicked up into a quick smile. “To a former client.”
His gaze darted to her lips. Her lips were truly incredible—red and full. And her scar shouldn’thave been sexy. Cash hated that Ana had been hurt. Hated that she was scarred in any way. If he’d had his way, she would have never known a moment of pain or fear.
Ana had a habit of lightly licking the faint line of her scar when she was in deep thought. A quick swipe of her pink tongue across her top lip.
Drives me insane.
Not that she knew it. Not that he’d tell her. It had been two years, for fuck’s sake. He’d moved the hell on. And even if Ana wasn’t sleeping with her boss, a woman like her would sure be sleeping with someone.
Whoever the guy was . . . he was one lucky bastard.
“What about you, Agent Knox?”
His brows rose. Since when was he Agent Knox?
“You involved with someone?” Her gaze dipped to his left hand. “I don’t see a ring, but that doesn’t mean anything. You certainly strike me as the marrying kind.”
He flexed his fingers. “Not involved. Definitely not married.” But her words were nagging. “What do you mean about me being the marrying kind?”
She waved her hand toward him. “Oh, you know.”
He had no clue.
“You’re the true-blue type. The white knight. So I just figured you’d have a white picket fence and an adoring family waiting for you by now.” Sadness flickered in her eyes, just for a moment. “I rather wanted that for you.”
Wait, what? “Ana Young,” he said, rasping out her name. “You confuse the hell out of me.”
Her long lashes fell, casting shadows against her cheeks.
“So . . . are we going to talk about it at all?” Cash drawled, aware that his Texas accent had just slipped out. Ana had grown up in Texas, too, though she’d certainly never talked to him about her life. Not that they’d done a whole lot of talking when they’d known each other before.
They’d met. Ignited. Burned up the sheets.
Then she’d vanished.
Her lashes slowly lifted. Her gaze swept over his face. “You look the same.” Her head tilted a bit as she studied him. “Though the stubble is new. Kind of gives you a rough edge.” She paused. “I like it.”
Ana.
“As far as talking about ‘it’ . . . I’m assuming you mean the case? Because we really don’t have anything else to talk about.”
That was cold and clear. And Cash found himself smiling. “You seem the same, too.” Direct. Sexy as all hell. But . . . “Prettier, though. How is that possible? How do you get better with time?”
She stared back at him. Her eyes were so dark, but he could see the gold hidden in their depths. That gold had ignited when he’d been inside of her and she’d been coming for him.
Focus on the case, man!
Because he wasn’t there for a walk down memory lane. He was with Ana because she truly was the best.
And . . .
So maybe I lied to Ana a bit. He lied to people all the time, and they had no clue. Ana had just said he was the white knight type.
That was hilarious. He was as far from a white knight as it was possible to be.

Review:

I believe Ana is one of  my all time favorite heroine of any Romantic Suspense novel I've read. She's smart, brave, and very flawed. But heck who isn't lol. She's also tough a nails but then she's had to be with her history but she works for the victims now.

Cash comes across as a true blue hero but that is not strictly true. He'll do anything to protect what is his and Ana is his. He just has to convince her of that fact. With her being fixated on by a sick and twisted killer that won't be that easy. All he has to do is help her find and stop the killer before he gets to his end game of Ana and get Ana to agree to happy ever after. Piece of cake right.

Good thing he one stubborn cuss. I like his never quit attitude. And in the end they get their man and he gets his lady. I was given this book by the author in exchange for consideration of a fair and honest review. I give this one 5 stars and here's hoping we get many more romantic suspense books from Cynthia Eden.

Review: Taken by Cynthia Eden

In New York Times bestselling author Cynthia Eden’s latest novel, the Last Option Search Team (LOST) returns—and for one agent, the hunt for a serial killer just got personal…
He swore to protect her…
Bailey Jones somehow survived her harrowing abduction by the infamous Death Angel. But while her physical scars have healed, she can’t stop wondering about a woman she helped to escape, who simply disappeared. When LOST agent Asher Young is assigned to her case, Bailey instantly feels an attraction to the intense, ex-SEAL who seems to be carrying dark secrets of his own.
But keeping his promise…
Asher can’t afford to let his growing feelings for Bailey distract him from his job. Only she can soothe his horrific nightmares, but the last thing he wants is for the demons from his past to ever hurt her. Bailey has gotten past his guard, and the emotions he feels for her—they’re as dark and dangerous as the past he doesn’t want to face.
Could cost both their lives.
When corpses begin surfacing—all marked with the same tattoo depicting the Death Angel’s calling card—Asher must race to stop a twisted killer who wants nothing more than to claim his next prize: Bailey…

Excerpt

“Bailey Jones . . .” Asher said her name softly, as if tasting it on his tongue. “There are a few things you should know about me before we begin.”
There are things you should know about me, too. But I’m not going to tell you . . . or you won’t help me.
“First, you don’t have to fear me. Part of my job at LOST—well, let’s just say Gabe hired me on because he wanted a bit more muscle. Protection is my role. I’ll keep you safe and track down any clues about that missing woman. On my watch, nothing will happen to you.”
She nodded even though—
I don’t believe you. There is no safety. I learned that.
“And second . . . you don’t have to bullshit me.”
Now she blinked in surprise.
He laughed, a deep, rough rumble of sound that Bailey found she liked to hear.
“You think I can’t tell when you’re wearing a mask? You’ve got yourself locked down tight, under careful control, don’t you? But you don’t have to do that with me. I’m not one of the North Carolina deputies. I’m not going to judge you. And I’m not some lame-ass reporter who wants to splash your story all over the world.”
I wear a mask all the time now because something is wrong inside of me. It has been, ever since that fire. That hole. That hell.
“So let’s put a no-bullshit rule in effect,” he murmured.
Her hands curled around the steering wheel. “Liking rules, is that more of a military thing again?”
“Wanting to break rules . . . that’s why I left the SEALs.”
He’d been a SEAL? She turned to look up at him. “Is there a rule number three?”
“We’ll get to that rule later . . .”
She started the vehicle. “I’ll follow you to your place.”
“Do you have any rules for me?”
Don’t hurt me. Don’t judge me. Don’t pity me. Bailey cleared her throat. “I’m sure we can get to those rules later, too.”
He slammed her door shut. Through the window, Bailey watched as he strode away—not to another car, but to a shiny, big monster of a motorcycle. He climbed on, revved the engine moments later, and that rumbling growl filled the parking garage.
Asher slid the helmet over his head—a black helmet with a dark visor that completely obscured his face. Her heart beat faster as she stared at him.
Dangerous.
That had been her first thought when she’d seen him in the conference room.
But he was on her side. Not a threat to her. He’d help her.
At least, that was what she hoped. Because if something didn’t change soon, Bailey was afraid that the deputies would be right about her. Her shrink would be right.
I may go crazy.

Review:

This is the latest book in Cynthia Eden's LOST series. And I believe that Bailey is my favorite heroine in this series so far. Seems like every time I read one of her books I say that but her heroines are so doggone fantastic. They are smart, strong, stubborn and snarky which are my favorite type of heroine. Yes they are usually traumatized or scarred  or both but they don't know the meaning of the word quit. And I like it. Bailey is the one that got away but there was another and she's determined to find out what happened to her. But as always things are not as simple as that.  When she hires the LOST team to help her she meets Asher and sparks fly right away.

But Asher has issues of his own dealing with his and his sister's abduction as teens. He tries putting Bailey off because he doesn't want her hurt if he fails her. Don't think that would happen. Asher takes being protective to extremes and I think the only thing that would stop him would be his death. And with the killer on the lose and looking to rectify its mistake in letting her get away that just might happen.

I will say that Ms Eden got me with parts of this story. I've been reading her stories for a while now and she just gets better and better at the suspense part of her stories. She's always rocked the romance part lol. If you've not read this series what are you waiting on. I was gifted this book by the author in exchange for consideration of fair and honest review. I give this one 5 stars. You can click below and purchase you own copy but if you've not read this series i'd start with the first one

Review: Before the Dawn by Cynthia Eden

Before The Dawn

The Killer Instinct series from New York Times bestselling author Cynthia Eden continues as an FBI profiler tracks a case that resurrects ghosts from his past.
Ex-SEAL Tucker Frost knows that the world is full of evil. He saw it in the face of his own brother, Jason Frost, a cold, methodical, sadistic killer. A killer Tucker put down with his own hands in order to save Jason’s final victim—Dawn Alexander, the only girl who got away from the infamous “Iceman.”
It’s Tucker’s up close and personal experience with evil that’s made him perfect for Samantha Dark’s experimental profiling division in the FBI. Samantha wants agents who have personal ties with killers, who have unique insights into the minds of monsters. And when women start turning up murdered with the same MO used by the Iceman, Tucker is sent back to Louisiana to investigate.
The last person he expects to see is his ex-lover, Dawn. Ten full years have passed since the night that Tucker faced down his brother…and since he last saw Dawn. But the dark need still burns just as hot between Tucker and Dawn. As they grapple with a desire that never died, they must also face the shared shadow from their pasts. Both Tucker and Dawn have the same question—has Jason Frost come back from the dead to hunt again? And this time, will he succeed in killing the victim who got away?

Excerpt

Dawn took a step forward and she shut the door behind her.
Tucker kept his hands at his sides. He tried to figure out just what in the hell he was supposed to say to her. The silence stretched a little too long—uncomfortably long. Her gaze was on his face, sweeping over his features one at a time, and he knew what she was thinking.
I look even more like him nowTime had thinned his face more, hardened him, and when he looked in the mirror, most days Tucker swore he saw his brother staring back at him.
He cleared his throat. “You…you look good, Dawn.”
She blinked.
Shit. That had been the wrong thing to say. He wanted to yank his hand over his face or pace or do something to get rid of the fierce energy pulsing through him.
“That’s what you have to say to me? After all this time?” Her voice was still husky but he could have sworn he heard an echo of pain in it.
He’d always hated her pain.
“Why didn’t you come in there to tell me about this case?” She put her hands on her hips as she stared up at him. “Why send in your partner?”
He wouldn’t lie to her. “Because I knew you didn’t want to see me.” That was the same reason he’d left her so long ago. Why he hadn’t talked to her in the last seven years.
“You know bullshit.” She shook her head. Her blonde hair hit her sharp cheeks. “No, you just know your own fear. You don’t know anything about me or what I want.
Her words surprised him and he took a quick step toward her. But…
She tensed. He saw it and the telling movement knifed right through him.
No, Dawn. I do know you. Better than you know yourself. I always knew you.
The problem was that she hadn’t truly known him. He’d been afraid for her to know the truth. He was still afraid. You wont like who I really am.
“What’s happening in this city? Who killed that poor woman?”
“I don’t know.” He’d be finding out soon. “We thought you had a right to hear about the crime first, before any news leaked to the media.” He hadn’t wanted her learning about this killer when she turned on the five o’clock news.
“Maybe that’s true, but I also think you wanted to see my reaction. You know, just in case I’d gone psycho and started killing like Jason.” She pursed her lips, as if thinking about that situation. “What would that be? Some serious PTSD shit, right? Your buddy Macey sure acted as if it were a possibility.”
“Dawn…”
“He didnbreak me.” Her eyes glittered at him. “I get that you think he did. I get that you think I was so shattered by what happened that you left—”
“That wasn’t what—”
“But I’m stronger than he was. I’m stronger than you gave me credit for being.”
He’d always thought she was the strongest woman he’d ever met.
“I’m strong,” she said again, “and I want in on this investigation.”
It took a moment for her words to register. Then he could only blink and shake his head. “What?”
She pulled her ID out of the small bag that was slung over her shoulder. She advanced toward him and her scent—soft, vanilla—wrapped around Tucker, reminding him of things he should forget. Of things he had no business remembering right then. “I’m a PI now. A damn good one. I know this city, I know the people here, and I want in on the investigation.”
He glanced at her ID, but he’d already known she was a PI. He’d researched her… He’d peeked into her life many times over the years. He’d always thought that, one day, he’d check up on her and discover that she was married. That she had a family. That she was happy.
He’d both longed for her happiness and feared it. Because I couldn't imagine her with anyone else.
“I want in,” Dawn said again, her expression determined.

I love romantic suspense and this was a fantastic read and something of a tear jerker. My favorite type of romantic suspense is when we don't know who the killer is because I am pretty good at figuring out who done it. Buy Tricky Tricky Author you almost got me on this one. I kept dithering back and forth between two people and with one of the twists she almost fooled. Almost.  But I was right in the end.

Dawn was a real survivor to the bone. And Tucker whoa nelly he is a fantastic hero. He gave Dawn what she needed no matter the cost to himself. Not sure how he didn't turn out to be a monstrous freak like the rest of his family. It was really surprising since Tucker was raised the same way as his brother "The Iceman". I am so glad that these two folks were able to get together in the end.

I give this story 5 stars and was given this book via Netgalley in consideration of a review and this in no way influenced my opinion of this book.

I've been reading Ms. Eden's romantic suspense since she started publishing it and she just keeps getting better and better. I look forward to reading all her books no matter the genre.

Review: Abduction by Cynthia Eden

Abduction

Once the town troublemaker, Sheriff Hayden Black became the teen hero who saved young Jillian West from a savage kidnapper. He never got over their brief affair. Now the ex-SEAL and the burned-out FBI agent have reunited in their Florida hometown and rediscovered their powerful attraction. But as they hunt down a long-forgotten killer, will they get a second chance at happiness? When a series of accidents begins to plague Jill, Hayden won’t let her fall victim again. There’s too much history between them…and too much desire.

Excerpt

“So what’s a hotshot FBI agent like you doing in a small town like this?” His index finger slid along her inner wrist, a careless caress.
Or maybe a very careful one. Even he wasn’t sure about that.
“Hiding.” And this time, her smile broke what was left of his heart. “Because I’m really not so much of a hotshot.” She looked down at their hands. “I’ve got too much blood on me.”
Alarm pulsed through him. “Jill?”
“Let me go,” she said once more.
Another caress, a gentle touch right over her rapid pulse point, and his hand slid away from her.
“I need to head home,” she said, then seemed to catch herself. “Head to the cabin. I rented a place on the beach. The beach is supposed to be good for the soul, right?”
He wouldn’t know. The only thing that had ever been good for his soul…well, that was Jill. She’d changed him, though he didn’t think she realized just how much. He didn’t think Jill even realized how influential she’d been in his life.
She’d always thought that he’d saved her.
Oh, baby, that could not be further from the truth.
She slipped by him and started walking toward the parking lot.
“Jillian West.” Her name pulled from him.
She hesitated.
“We’re not kids any longer.”
Jill glanced over her shoulder. “I haven’t been a child since I was thirteen years old.”
No, she hadn’t been. He knew that. One terrible act had changed her world.
“I came back to Hope for many reasons,” Hayden said. Maybe she deserved that warning. “I didn’t expect to see you so soon.”
“So soon? Why expect to see me at all?”
Ah, now that was just cold. “Do you ever think about us?”
She faced the front again. “I try not to.”
He took that hit straight on his heart. “Really? Because I pretty much think about you every single day.” Though the nights were the worst. When he’d been fighting, when he’d been in one hell after another, memories of Jill had always come to him at night.
But a memory wasn’t walking away from him right then. No memory, no ghost.
He’d watched her walk away before, but this time, things were going to be different. This time, he was fighting for Jill.
She just didn’t realize it yet.

REVIEW:

This was an excellent read. It was fast paced right out of the gate. The beginning chapter sucked me right in and the book kept me engrossed throughout. I couldn't put it down. I read this book in one sitting and that is unusual for me. Jill was an intriguing heroine. Tough but with with issues. Of course you couldn't really blame her. Now Hayden was my kind of hero a total badass but a softy inside for his lady.

I couldn't believe who the bad guy was in this book. I am pretty good at figuring out who it is but in this book I really didn't want it to be who it was. So I tried to find someone else lol I loved the ending I give this one 5 stars and if you've not read this one give it a try. I was given this book via Netgalley in consideration of a review.

Review: Tempted by Fate by Cynthia Eden

You can’t cheat Fate…and for the record, she really doesn’t like it when you betray her, either.
Leo is used to having power. After all, he carries the title Lord of the Light for a reason—he’s a supernatural powerhouse and his job is protect all of the “light” paranormals in the world. He’s used to snapping his fingers and getting anything—or anyone—he wants.  But when he fell for Fate, Leo learned that power didn’t get a man everything.  In fact, it didn’t even get him the one woman he wanted most…
Fate…AKA Mora (that’s the name she prefers to use—a lot less weighty on her shoulders) has spent centuries hiding from her supernatural ex-lover Leo. Most people fear Leo and rightly so.  He’s got immense power and a definite date with an unfortunate end-of-the-world calamity.   When Leo seduced Mora and promised to put the world at her feet, she actually thought the guy had fallen for her. Too late, she discovered he was just using her in an attempt to change his destiny.
And Leo’s destiny? It’s not pretty. Some very, very bad things are coming for him. Mora shouldn’t care about the danger he faces. She should turn her back on her ex. His heart is ice cold, she knows that, but her own heart…it’s still a little weak where Leo is concerned.
Leo has tried to walk on the side of good for a long time…but his sins are coming back to haunt him. A darkness is trying to consume him, and if Mora can’t help him…then it’s not just Leo who will pay the price for his past. The whole world will change.
You think you know the Lord of the Light? Think again.

Excerpt

He cleared his throat. “You’re a hard woman to find.”
“That’s because I didn’t want to be found.” She opened her eyes and schooled her expression. Breathing slowly, Mora straightened her shoulders. Then she turned to confront him. “Well, you sure can still clear a room. Nice to see that winning personality of yours hasn’t changed.”
She expected anger in the face of her taunt, but…he didn’t look angry. Didn’t even look mildly annoyed. If it had been anyone else, Mora would have sworn that he looked happy as he stared at her. His gaze slid slowly from the top of her head all the way down to the tips of her heels.
“Fate,” he breathed, “you are even more beautiful—”
“Mora.” The name blasted from her. “That’s my name. Picked it out all by myself because I liked the sound of it.  Fate is just some dumb title that I was saddled with a long time ago.  If you’re going to talk to me, use my name, got it?” She stalked forward. Her heels clicked on the wooden floor. “And you’d better talk fast. I’m giving you five minutes—just five—and then I want your ass out of here.”
He leaned back against the bar, crossed his arms over his chest, and just stared at her.
Could he hear just how fast her heart was beating? Could he smell her fear?  His senses were all super amped up, she knew it—he probably had the best senses of any paranormal beast. There was a reason he was at the top of the paranormal badass ladder.
She kept her chin up, and she didn’t let her pace slow. So what if he smelled her fear? She was more than just fear. “Shouldn’t you be out saving angels or something?” Mora muttered. “Do you really need to be here, messing up my life?”
“You hid from me.”
Why, why did she still find his voice sexy?  “Guilty.”  She gave him a smile. One that she knew would not reach her eyes.  “Ever so very guilty. I hid and I would have stayed hidden, but you just burst up into my place. Without an invitation.” She stopped about a foot away from him. Close enough to touch. Not that she planned to make that epically bad move. No, thank you. Mora tilted her head as she stared up at him. “How did you find me?” The clench in her gut told Mora the answer and she hated this new betrayal. I was not ready for him yet.
There was only one person who knew where she was.  Her cousin.  A muse with unfortunate taste in men.
Like I’m one to judge.
“Sabrina sent me.”
And there it was—another knife to her heart.  Her cousin had sold her out.
“She made a deal,” he added, his voice rumbling right over her. “She was desperate, and you were the only thing I wanted.”
You were the only thing I wanted. If only those words were true.
No, no, she didn’t care if he wanted her. Not now.  But back in the past, it would have been nice if his feelings for her had actually been genuine.
“So Sabrina told me where I could find you,” he continued, seeming to carefully choose his words, “and in exchange, I helped her.”
“Yeah, I’m sure you helped her plenty.  I know how the deals you and your brother work play out—you and Luke are the only ones who really seem to benefit.”
He didn’t deny her charge. Probably because she was dead-on right.
“Have you thought about me?” Leo asked her.
She blinked. “What?”
“Because you’ve been in my head. Every single damn day.” He gave a grim laugh. “Though I have to say, the nights were the worst.  The worst…” He paused. “And the best. Because the things that happened in my dreams—”
“Do not say another word.” And suddenly, she was standing toe-to-toe with him. “How dare you?”  Mora demanded. “How fucking dare you come back into my life this way? You’re going to stand there and spout out some bull about dreams? You threw me away. You used me. You lied to me. You betrayed me.” You ripped out my heart. Stomped on it. Then stomped on it some more.
“I’m not the same man.”
Now she had to laugh. Bitterly. “No, I suspect you’re even worse.” Her gaze held his. “Lord of the Light.” Her voce was mocking. “Should I bow or something? You know, since I’m in the presence of such greatness.”
His jaw was rock hard.
She spun from him. “Your five minutes is tick, ticking on down—”
He grabbed her wrist. “You don’t bow to me. You don’t bow to anyone. You’re Fate. You hold the world…” Now he looked down at her hand—the one he’d trapped. “You hold the world in your hand.”
His touch seemed to burn her.  She hadn’t wanted to touch him. When she touched him, Mora felt too much. Her breath was already panting out. The desire she felt for him—it surged inside of her.  She hated him, but she still wanted him. That was the way it was between them. No sense, no reason at all, just a savage need.
The first time they’d met…it had been so very, very long ago. Savagery had ruled the land back then, and the wild desire she’d felt for Leo as they stood at the foot of a volcano? It hadn’t seemed so strange. In fact, she’d thought it was rather perfect.
She’d been wrong.  About many things.
But the desire hadn’t died. After everything that had happened—every terrible thing—it was still there. Their skin touched, and her body primed. His touch charged her, and every inch of her body seemed to yearn.
“Let. Me. Go.” Her words were ice cold even though she was burning red hot. She might want him—her body was betraying her that way—but she was more than just a body. She was a mind and a broken heart.

Review:

I couldn't wait for Leo's book and to find out his heroine was "Fate" who wants to be called Mora now was very intriguing. Like I've said before Ms Eden does not disappoint on having different and unusual paranormal beings. No same ole same ole here thank you very much. And the way all her books in this series ties together is fantastic. I keep thinking that her books can't get better but they do.

I don't want to say much about this story since I don't want to give away any of the surprises that this book has. But suffice to say this was one fantastic read and I give it 5 stars. I was gifted the book by the author in exchange for consideration of a review.

Review: Heart of Stone by Cynthia Eden

She was created to tempt…and enchant.
Sabrina Lark is a muse who has the ability to inspire any man…to do absolutely anything. Unfortunately for Sabrina, the latest human to fall under her spell has turned out to have one very dark side. Now he’s obsessed with her, and she’s realized—too late—that she just inspired a serial killer. She truly has the worst luck in the world.
Desperate, Sabrina makes a deal with the devil in order to get some serious paranormal protection. Her protection comes in the oh-so-sexy form of Adam Cross, a man who is able to resist her magic…because Adam really is made of stone.
He’s a real beast on the outside…
Cursed centuries before, Adam is a gargoyle. Fierce, strong, and absolutely unstoppable, he is the guard who is placed at Sabrina’s side. He’s supposed to protect her from every danger…he is not supposed to find himself falling under the seductive Sabrina’s spell. But even a man with a heart of stone can find himself pushed too far…
Sabrina thinks she may have found the perfect lover, but Adam’s past is about to come back and bite them both…and he may not be the man she can trust, after all. If she can’t find a way to touch the man inside the beast, if she can’t make his stone heart burn for her, then they’ll be lost.

Excerpt

He swept through the open balcony doors and felt the brush of the wind against his face. He expected to see Sabrina standing on the balcony. It wasn’t as if she had anywhere to go. Unlike him, she didn’t have the luxury of possessing her own wings. But when he stepped outside, she wasn’t in front of him. It took him two seconds too long to realize that he’d just walked into her trap. He spun around, but she’d already lunged at him. She’d been hiding right next to the balcony door, pushing her body flat against the bricks there. In a breath, she had a wickedly sharp knife pressed to his throat. Instantly, Adam stilled. After all, wasn’t that the reaction normal man would have to that situation?
“Who in hell are you?” Sabrina demanded. She was tall in her heels, but she still tipped back her head to stare into his eyes. “What are you doing in a ballroom full of humans?”
Very slowly, he lifted his hands. Adam wanted to show he wasn’t armed. He’d brought no weapons with him to the charity ball. It wasn’t as if he needed weapons. “I think you’re confused.” Adam kept his voice soft and calm, or as soft and calm as he could manage. His gaze swept over her face.
What a fucking fabulous face it was. A perfect oval, with those wide, unforgettable eyes. Her nose was small and straight. Her cheekbones almost ridiculously high. And her mouth… Talk about the stuff of the darkest fantasies. Red. Full. Too tempting.
“I’m not confused.” Anger tightened each word. “You think I don’t know a predator when I see one?” Her left hand fisted around the front of his tux. Then she yanked him toward the nearby wall, making sure they were away from any prying eyes. Not that there was anyone out there to watch them. All of the rich humans were inside getting drunk. Only he and Sabrina were outside.
Adam offered her a weak smile. “Predator?” He lifted one brow. “I hardly think so. You took one look at me, and you went running. I just followed you to make certain you were okay.”
The tip of the blade pressed his throat. “Bullshit,” she whispered the word like a caress. “You aura is the darkest one I’ve ever seen. Trust me on this, I’ve seen plenty of dark ones.”
Adam blinked at her even as he kept his hands raised. “Aura?” he repeated. “You want to run that by me again?”
Her delicate jaw hardened. “Yes, aura. Yours hangs around you like a dark shadow of death.”
Adam didn’t know much about auras, but her description of his? Yeah, that seemed pretty spot on with his life. Not that he would tell her that particular truth. “You got me all wrong, lady.”
“I have enough shit going on in my life right now. I cannot deal with you, too. Go look for inspiration somewhere else.” She drew in a shuddering breath. “If you don’t, you’ll be sorry.”
Adam had to admit, the muse was impressing him. And he wasn’t one who was easily impressed. But she was doing it. Impressing him and turning him on. Sure, most men wouldn’t like it if a woman put a knife to their throats. He wasn’t most men. Technically, he was far beyond being just a man. So he offered her a small smile, then said, “You’re the muse I was told about.”
Sabrina cast a quick, nervous glance toward the open balcony doors. “Keep your voice down.”
Adam laughed. “And maybe you should keep your knife out of sight.”
It was interesting to note, Sabrina hadn’t broken the surface of his skin. Not yet, anyway. She was being very careful with her knife.
“Who are you?” she demanded.
Instead of answering, he asked, “Can you really inspire a man to do anything you want?”
For an instant, she bit down on her plump, lower lip. Then Sabrina gave a quick, negative shake of her head. “That isn’t the way it works. I don’t know what you’ve been led to believe, but that’s just wrong.”
Adam wasn’t so sure it was wrong. “Try it,” he dared. “See if you can control me.”
At his words, Sabrina gave a quick gasp. She yanked the knife away from his throat. “I want you to stay away from me. Do you understand? Far, far away. You carry a darkness… I can’t handle you now. I won’t handle you.” As he watched, she tucked the knife back into a sheath that was strapped to her thigh. Hmmm. So that was why she had such a long slit in her dress. The slit gave her easy access to her weapon.
Clever muse.
Sabrina turned away from him. She’d obviously drawn him onto the balcony that they could have a one-on-one chat. Only the chat hadn’t worked out so well. And now she was trying to ditch him…again.
His hand flew out and curved around her shoulder. In a blink, he’d pinned her between his body and the brick wall. Adam leaned in close to Sabrina. If any humans walked onto the balcony, they would just assume he and Sabrina were two lovers making out in the dark. The humans would be wrong. But what else was new?
His right hand slid down to her thigh. Her skin felt like silk beneath his touch. His fingers moved lightly over that silk.
“What are you doing?” Sabrina asked, her voice little more than a whisper.
He pulled the knife from the sheath and held it easily in his hand. “I’m making sure you don’t get the urge to slice my throat again.”
REVIEW:
I love Cynthia Eden's paranormal romances. You can always count on her for unusual paranormal beings, a sexy love story, and of course a happy ever after.  This book had a muse and a gargoyle and the usual cast of characters from this series. I honestly don't think I've ever read a story with a muse. Gargoyles yes muse no. It was intriguing the way she inspires folks. And her inspiration usually backfires on her. That is where the serial killer comes in.  I was so glad she found Adam and that he was immune to her powers because hello gargoyle. Adam has issues of his own and the serial killer clues into one his problems and capitalizes on it. But it all works out in the end.
I love that Luke is playing match maker and even Leo gets in on the act. I was gifted this book by the author in exchange for consideration of a review and I loved it. Absolutely loved it. I give it 5 stars and if you click below you can buy your own copy and if you've not read this series why not? If you love paranormal romance series with a great group of characters and unusual paranormal beings this is for you.

Review: After the Dark by Cynthia Eden

In this gripping new series by New York Times bestselling author Cynthia Eden, a disgraced FBI profiler must save her reputation by stopping a sadistic killer she knows all too well.
Former FBI agent Samantha Dark was one of the most respected profilers in the bureau, an expert on the twisted minds and dark hearts of the most depraved criminals. But when her own former lover turned out to be the serial killer she was hunting, Samantha’s career was destroyed. Blamed for the FBI’s failure on the complex case, Samantha fled Washington, DC, for the quiet anonymity of Alabama.
Now an all-too-familiar killer is hunting once again. She can catch the sadistic assassin, but that means putting her trust in her former partner, Blake Gamble. Ex-military, Blake is tough, protective, precise. With her entire life on the brink, she knows he wants her back in the FBI…and possibly more.
But someone else wants her, too. A threat is waiting in the dark, a killer who has set his sights on the ultimate trophy victim--Samantha.

I have to say this has to be the most twisted story I've read in a long time. OMG the real bad guy truly was dark twisted piece of psychopathic work.  Samantha was an excellent profiler and spot on in her profiles but he got close and flew under her radar because he was an old lover now friend. After he got away the FBI or specifically her boss threw through her under the bus even thought it wasn't her fault. She moves back to her hometown and takes a job there. And then another woman shoes up dead with a very familiar MO. And there is a tape that makes her old partner Blake come looking for her. Because it's either a copy cat or the real deal her old friend/lover. Blake comes looking for her to get her take on which it is.
Unfortunately this is what the new killer wants because she stopped Cam and that was his mentor. He wants to kill Samantha to punish her for that. But Cam doesn't want that. So he comes looking also.  Now there are two killers in her small town and she and Blake are determined to stop them both.  This would be hard enough but with them falling in love and Cam incensed about that it is much harder. He is determined to kill Blake and get Sam back.
I'm not going to tell what happens in the end. Just suffice to say it's a HEA for Sam and Blake. I was gifted this book by the author in exchange for consideration of a review and I give it 5 stars. I must say this was the best Romantic suspense book I've read in a while.

Review: Broken Angel by Cynthia Eden

What happens when an angel falls? Find out in Book 4 of Cynthia Eden’s “Bad Things” series, BROKEN ANGEL.
Angel Lila is being hunted—she can feel the hunter closing in behind her. Every move she makes, he’s stalking after her. But does the werewolf on her trail want to destroy her—or can he protect her from the growing darkness that she is trying so desperately to fight?
Werewolf Rayce Lovel doesn’t know what to do with an angel—especially one who makes him think too much about paradise. Lila may be heavenly, but every time he’s near her, Rayce wants to sin. Angels aren’t supposed to feel, but Lila was introduced to the world by way of pain. Pain is all she’s known for far too long, and now, Rayce is tempted to introduce gorgeous Lila to pleasure.
But the longer an angel stays out of heaven, the more dangerous she can become. Lila sinks deeper into the darkness with each night that passes, and she finds herself becoming a pawn in an eternal battle…good versus evil. Is Rayce really her protector? Perhaps he is just the hungry wolf who has been sent to ensure that Lila never sets foot back in her paradise.
A fallen angel has a bad side…and that side is about to be set free.
This book was veeerrry interesting.  It has an alpha werewolf and an angel. Lila was an angel who was kidnapped and tortured by a power hungry madman. And she got away when the good guys saved the day. Rayce is tasked with bringing her back.  He catches up to her about the same time the only other fallen angel does.
Rayce has to deal with Kale (the fallen angel) trying to get Lila along with getting her to trust him. And as she starts to he's forced to break her trust but it's truly for her own good. Naturally she's doesn't agree with that.
But everything turns out alright in the end and she Rayce and the rest manage to knock off Kale.  It requires a big sacrifice on Rayce's part but he's willing to pay it for Lila's sake. I am hoping that we get Leo's book soon. He needs his. Not sure if I mean the love of his life or his comeuppance or both lol.
I give was given this book by the author in consideration of a review and I give it 5 stars. If you've not read this series what are you waiting for. They are excellent reads. Don't believe me do the one click think and see for yourself.

Review: On the Prowl by Cynthia Eden

Time to embrace your inner evil.
Rose Kinley never intended to be one of the most feared creatures to walk the earth. Once upon a time, she was a human—one who fell in love with a mysterious stranger. But when she got caught in a paranormal war, she lost her humanity and died…only to wake later as a vampire.
Now Rose has a choice. She can continue to try and be the good girl she once was or she can let her darkness out to play. Maybe it’s finally time for her to step into the dark.
He’s the reason she’s undead.
Panther shifter Julian Craig has a mission—protect Rose at all costs. It’s his fault that she lost her human life, and he literally made a deal with the devil so that she would have a second chance as a vampire. And as part of that deal, he’s supposed to keep his hands off Rose. An impossible task considering the dangerous lust he feels for her.
When Rose is targeted by a paranormal collector, Julian knows that he will have to let his own beast out if he is to protect the only woman who ever touched his battered soul. Rose may be afraid of the darkness she carries, but Julian is more than ready to show the world just what kind of a monster he truly is. Julian isn’t afraid of the dark…but the monsters that wait in the shadows? They will bow to him.
He’ll show her just how good it can feel…to be bad.

This is the second book in Cynthia Eden's Bad Things Series and I believe Julian is my favorite hero in this series so far. He and Rose start out when she is a human. Unfortunately she gets caught in the cross fire when hunters come after Julian and is killed. He gets his friend Luke to change her. If you've read the first book in this series Devil in Disguise you've already met him. Needless to say Rose was not thrilled with this. And she basically disappears.

To say Julian is not happy with that is an understatement. When he finds her she's is being hunted by the Collector and agrees to Julian helping her out only if he agrees to keep his hands to himself. But that doesn't happen because neither one of them really wants it to. Despite her new powers and Julian being a total badass she is still captured by the collector. But since Julian has her scent he tracks her and when he arrives she and a couple of the other of the Collectors victims manage to subdue the Collector and finally they behead him and he is truly dead. We are also introduced to the heroine in the next book in this series and we've already met the hero in the first two books. And I cannot wait.

I give this book 5 stars and I was given this book by the author as a gift. If you want to purchase you own copy click the link below.

Review :Torn by Cynthia Eden

In New York Times bestselling author Cynthia Eden’s latest novel featuring the Last Option Search Team (LOST), one agent’s investigation entices a killer into making her his prey.
PARTNERS…FRIENDS…
Forensic anthropologist Victoria Palmer has always been better with the dead than the living. Shutting down her emotions, she lets few people in. But then Victoria’s latest investigation takes her and agent Wade Monroe to Savannah, Georgia. Handsome, dangerous, and more than ready to play dirty on any case, Wade weakens Victoria’s aloofness with just one glance.
…LOVERS
Wade knows their recent cases have pushed Victoria beyond her limits. But her skills are crucial to finding a college student who went missing five years ago. Victoria is able to determine she was murdered, and that the killer is still on the loose.
And when the vicious murderer targets Victoria, Wade must do everything in his power to protect her…because he refuses to let a woman he loves be torn from him…again

Warning Spoiler Alert*************

I liked Victoria as a heroine not sure whether I'd want her job but she is very smart and way stronger that she comes off as in the first books. But I knew that when she was captured by the deranged killer in the last book. And Wade is my favorite in this bunch. He's solid to the core and way overprotective. But he's not as buy the book as Victoria thinks. He will do anything to protect the innocent and especially those he cares about.

And man Cynthia got me this time. Usually by halfway through the book I've figured out the bad guy but in this one. I had one but with the other she got me I didn't figure it out until close to end.

I was given this book by the author in exchange for a fair and honest  review and this one I loved. I give it 5 stars.

If you love good romantic suspense click the links and you can buy this whole series.

Review: Reckoning by Cynthia Eden

New town, new name…more trouble!
Dr. Jamie Myers has tried outrunning her past, but now someone is stalking her, leaving her deadly messages. Once, she’d trusted the wrong man. So how can she rely on Davis McGuire, the fiercely handsome ex-SEAL she’s hired as a bodyguard? And how can she ignore the way his hands-on attention excites her?
One of McGuire Securities’ best, Davis wants to protect the sexy doc 24/7 and play by the rules. But as Jamie’s stalker grows bolder, Davis’s desire grows stronger. Soon he’s breaking all his rules—so he can uncover Jamie’s secrets in order to protect her…and discover the key to her heart.

Man this book really starts out with a bang and we are off and running. This book was very fast paced and Jamie's past was really heart rending. I must say I am not sure why she'd ever trust any man again period but Davis is one of the good guys. Mind you he's not all hearts and sunshine. He can bring the rain and the lightning if necessary and it this book it was.

Not to say anything too spoilerish but I really liked the ending in this book. And I want to say for the record that if you like romantic suspense you definitely need to pick up this series. They are fun, fast paced reads with side order of suspense..

I bought this book with my own money and I give it 5 stars.

Review: Deceptions by Cynthia Eden

Old sins explode in New York Times bestselling author Cynthia Eden’s new Battling McGuire Boys!
People called Elizabeth Snow wild, and once she was. Now she’s the straitlaced librarian with no interest in the wildest, sexiest McGuire…until she needs him to protect her from a murderous stalker. But former Delta Force Mac does more than protect—he quickly unleashes her untamed side again, taking their attraction to the furthest edge of desire!
Secrets from their pasts threaten Elizabeth and Mac—as much as”The Fixer,” who seems to know their every move as they hunt this monstrous killer. Can they trust each other enough to go forward? Or will a shocking truth prove fatal?

This was the first book in this series that I've read and I want to go on record that "the Fixer" was one of the creepiest villains that I've read about in a long time. The way he was described was as someone who was very nondescript and didn't stand out in any way. And doggone it he was like the energizer bunny he just keep coming and coming.  Mac is my most favorite brother of this series. And Elizabeth is a very lucky lady. She escapes death a few times in this book.

I was given this book by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review and I liked it so much I bought two others in this series and have added the rest to my wish list. I give this book 5 stars and a very recommended read for this book and the series too.

Review: Confessions by Cynthia Eden

Meet the first of The Battling McGuire Boys from New York Times bestselling author Cynthia Eden!
Desperate to prove she’s being framed for murder, Scarlett Stone entrusts her reputation—and her life—to the man who once broke her heart. Grant McGuire, a sexy former army ranger turned detective, has never been the same since military action. But behind his cold demeanor, he still burns for Scarlett.
Taking her case is an easy but dangerous decision for Grant. Together they must race against the clock to find the real killer, who now wants them both dead. More dangerous, however, is their sudden, reignited passion. Grant will do anything for a second chance with Scarlett…while she’ll do everything to keep the secret she never wants him to know…

It has been a while since I've read anything from Harlequin and I really like Cynthia Eden's Battling McGuire Boys. This is a family that is really close knit and are what I'd like to think a family should be but it is not always the case. And Grant being the older brother is more protective than most and he leaves Scarlett for her own good. And that didn't work out so well. But Scarlett is no weak heroine though she is a damsel in distress with someone trying to frame her and with Grant and his family working on getting her through that. They are having so much success that the killer decides she has to die. This book has reunited lovers, a deranged killer, and action packed in a small package. I was given one of these books (Deceptions) by the author in exchange for a fair and honest  review and I liked this family so much I went and bought this one and another. I give this 4 1/2 stars.
