Review: The Morcai Battalion The Rescue by Diana Palmer

New York Times bestselling author Diana Palmer returns with the next edge-of-your-seat installment of The Morcai Battalion series.
Rhemun, commander of the Cehn-Tahr Holconcom, has worked tirelessly to get where he is—and he's not going to let any human drag him back down. Especially not Lt. Commander Edris Mallory, whose very presence aboard the Morcai serves as a too-painful reminder of a past tragedy he can neither forgive nor forget.
But Mallory has secrets of her own—ones she can't afford to see come to light. Frantic to protect herself, she flees, abandoning her position. When Rhemun learns of her devastating situation, he realizes the all-consuming feelings he's harbored for her may not be hatred. But in a vast universe rife with peril, is it already too late?

I have been reading Diana Palmer for many years and didn't realize until several years ago that she had written a Scifi Romance. Once I found out about them I had to search them out. They were great reads which I really liked  and I was hoping that there would be more in this world. When I found she had written another book I was stoked.
This book had action, adventure, romance, and adversity and was an interesting story. There were a few things that I'd have changed if I could. I had issues with the characters particular the heroine.. She is mated to this guy and has his baby and he comes in one day and basically tells her he doesn't want her or the baby and she just goes off and leaves. I'd have tried to remove his balls but that would have  exposed the plot against her and her mates marriage. But be that as it may that could be my issue since I don't like weak females. And other than this issue she is a very strong intelligent lady throughout the book. It seemed very out of character for her. The hero was so so. He definitely had issues he needed to work on.  He almost let his own prejudices screw up his entire life. I really didn't care for him at all. He was just so bleh. Story line was amazing but characters was not on par with the world building.
I was given this book via Netgalley in exchange for consideration of a review and I give it 3 stars

Review: Led Astray by Kelley Armstrong

Welcome to the many worlds of #1 New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong (Otherworld, Cainsville). As her SyFy channel series, Bitten, enters its second season, Armstrong continues to breathe new life into city-dwelling vampires, werewolves, and zombies. Now travel even further with her, to a post-apocalyptic fortress, a superstitious village, a supernatural brothel, and even feudal Japan.

In Led Astray, you’ll discover the stories of new characters from within and outside Armstrong’s popular novels. Here you will find two original tales from Cainsville, plus journeys to and beyond the worlds of Darkest Powers, Age of Legends, Otherworld, and more.

Bold and humorous, passionate and heart-stopping, here is Kelley Armstrong at her versatile best

I love Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld series. I've been reading it since it first come out. I've read the majority of the stories in that world including the YA ones. And I got my son and several of his friends that were girls reading those too. So when I received this book for review I was looking forward to reading some of the stories set in her other worlds. And I must say I am going to have to go find the rest of the Cainsville stories. She hooked me with the stories in this one. And the Otherworld series stories was fantastic as I expected.
I was pleasantly surprised that I wasn't lost reading these stories since I've not read the books in that series or two of her other series. I could tell that there was more to these stories but they stood alone. I give this anthology a 4 stars and I received it from Netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Review: Small Magics by Ilona Andrews

***The stories in this anthology have been previously published***

Now collected for the first time, an irresistible compilation of five previously published stories by the bestselling author of the Kate Daniels series; including Kate’s very first meeting with Saiman, some related adventures, and two unforgettable ‘outside’ excursions.

A QUESTIONABLE CLIENT –
In this ‘intro’ to the Kate Daniels world, we meet the extremely ‘shifty’ Saiman for the very first time, when Kate takes on the task of serving as his bodyguard to protect him from some very determined—and dangerous—Russian wizards.

RETRIBUTION CLAUSE –
Saiman’s cousin, Adam—a frost giant and also an insurance adjuster—and his enigmatic partner, Siroun, set out on an impossible mission to enforce a client’s Retribution Clause; that is, to kill the person who killed her. But is their target even guilty? Magic and mayhem and a little personal chemistry will reveal the truth!

OF SWINE AND ROSES –
A young adult story about a girl, a pig, some magic, and the worst date ever.

Chad Thurman is a thug, who carries brass knuckles in both pockets and lays magic traps for intruders into "his" neighborhood. The last thing Alena Kornov wants to do is to go on the date with him. But when her family pressures her, she can't say no. Now the ice-cream is absent, the pig is running for its life, and we won't even mention the dead guy...

GRACE OF SMALL MAGICS –
Grace has always known she wasn’t like everyone else and that her family has magic abilities. After flying to meet the head of Clan Dreoch in order to fulfill her families’ “duties” as servants, Grace finds herself in the middle of a mage clan war…

MAGIC TESTS –
A short story in the Kate Daniels universe. Kate recruits her teenage ward, Julie, to search out a missing student whose location spell has her hidden somewhere on campus…Now collected for the first time, an irresistible compilation of five previously published stories by the bestselling author of the Kate Daniels series; including Kate’s very first meeting with Saiman, some related adventures, and two unforgettable ‘outside’ excursions.

This is bunch of small stories set in Ilona Andrew's world and most of these have been published in one form or the other. I've read a couple of them but I missed most of these so this was fun read for me.. I especially liked the first one. Saiman's and Kate's relationship entertains me to no end.
I also really liked Of Swine and Roses mainly because of Alena because she was a great heroine. and of course last but not least the last story Magic Test was fabulous. I really love everything about that world and Julie is one of my favorite characters.
I bought this book with my own money and I give it 4 1/2 stars. And am impatiently waiting for more stories from them.

FEEL THE BURN

Dragon Kin #8

G.A. Aiken

Released Nov 24th, 2015

Zebra Imprint

War makes strange bedfellows.
I, Gaius Domitus, one-eyed rebel dragon king of the Provinces, know that better than most, since I have to fight off half my ungrateful family on a regular basis to keep law and order here in my lands. But I never expected to have to consort with a barbarian human woman.

Kachka is beautiful, if you like them fierce—and of course I do. But she keeps complaining about how spoiled and decadent I am, and how a feared Daughter of the Steppes has no time for foolish dragons. I think she likes my eye patch, though. It is quite dashing. With death always at our tails, we take our passion like we take our allies. As they say, love the barbarian you’re with…

Elina’s suggestion that they play a game was not helping Kachka’s current emotional state. If anything, it just made her feel even more useless.
Elina studied the game board with her one good eye, debating her next move.
This was the life of the Shestakova sisters now.
Decadent. Lazy. Spoiled. Sitting around. Playing board games like children.
It amazed Kachka that adults played these games. Daughters of the Steppes had their three-year-olds playing these games to help them understand the concept of “divide, conquer, and destroy so that the next city or town over just gives us what we ask for.”
So for the two sisters to be playing these games again appalled Kachka on a visceral level. How far she’d fallen back. Would it never get better?
Finally, after much thought, Elina went to make her move . . . and her hand missed the piece by a few inches. Although, based on Elina’s reaction, it might as well have been a mile.
Kachka’s sister growled, then she swiped her hand at the board . . . which she also missed.
That’s when the entire board went flying, her sister’s bellow of rage startling the weak, delusional servants who worked for these rich, decadent royals.
 sighed. “You were winning.”
“Shut up!”
Kachka leaned back in her chair. “Such whining. Like baby, you whine!”
“I am still weak!”
“You took down bear last week.”
“Took me three shots!”
“That’s not eye. That’s this life we now live.” She pointed at one of the dragons walking by. “Decadent! Like that dragon.”
The dragon stopped, placed a hand on his chest. “Me? Kachka, you love me!”
“I love your beauty. I have no use for you personally. You represent all that we hate.”
“Why do you talk to him so?” Elina asked. “He cannot help that he is beautiful but worthless.”
“I am not worthless! I am Gwenvael the—”
“We do not care, lizard!” Kachka barked.
“Do not yell at him!”
“Do not be so pathetic! So you miss eye! Get over it!”
That’s when Elina kicked Kachka under the table. So Kachka kicked her back.
“Ow!”
“Whine!”
Elina reached and grabbed Kachka by her leather buckskin shirt. That Elina could grip with no problem.
Kachka punched her sister’s arm, but that only made Elina drag Kachka out of the chair. Kachka gripped Elina by her shoulders, shoving her back against the table.
“Stop it! Both of you!” the dragon called out. “I have enough beauty to share with everyone!”
Ignoring the beautiful but useless dragon, Kachka drew back her arm to punch her sister, but it was caught and held.
She assumed it was the dragon, but when she looked, it was the queen who held her. What worried her, though, was the look on the queen’s face. She stared at Kachka as if she’d never seen her before.
“You,” the queen said.
“What about me?”
She didn’t answer at first. Simply stared. Then, suddenly, she yanked Kachka off her sister. “Come with me,” she ordered.
“No!” Elina cried out, grabbing Kachka’s other arm. “Do not kill her!”
The queen blinked. “What?”
“It is all right, sister,” Kachka soothed. “I am ready for death.”
“What are you two—?”
“Don’t worry,” the beautiful dragon tossed in. “I’ll make sure you have a beautiful funeral.”
Gwenvael!” Annwyl roared.
“Why are you yelling at me? I didn’t do anything. It was the outsider!”
Annwyl yanked Kachka from her sister’s grip. “She’ll be fine,” she snapped before Elina could complain further.
“Do not worry, sister,” Kachka said as the queen dragged her off. “I will go to my death
bravely!”

I just love G.A.'s books. They are always highly entertaining. The one thing that I can always count on with her books is that they generally make me snort my drink if I happen to be stupid enough to read and drink at the same time. That proved true of this one as well. This is a continuing series and i'm not sure that it would translate well as a standalone read. Might be a tad bit confusing but that's all right because all of these book are fantastic and like lays chips you can't read just one.

My only issue was that the main couple's story was a little rushed more so than  normal and the book was busier with all the side bits going on. This isn't a traditional romance more a fantasy with romantic elements and that worked for me..  But I must say I liked all the little side stories with all the normal crazies in her books. I liked seeing some of Gais backstory and would like to learn more about his sister and of course the Abominations. I am so looking forward to all their books and to see the resolution of this continuing story arc.

I can always count on G.A. or as who I think of as Shelly Laurenston which is her alter-ego and how she was first introduced to me long ago and far away lol to entertain and crack me up. I give this book 4 1/2 stars and I was given this via Netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

7. Review: Dangerous Secrets by Lisa Renee Jones

Buy here for $2.99 right now

Product Description
The Walker Brothers...

Tall, dark, and deadly, these three brothers run Walker security. Each brother is unique in his methods and skills, but all share key similarities. They are passionate about those they love, relentless when fighting for a cause they believe in, and all believe that no case is too hard, no danger too dark. Dedication is what they deliver, results are their reward.

READING ORDER DOES NOT EFFECT STORIES AT ALL
Dangerous Secrets --- Luke and Julie's story!

Being a divorce attorney for the rich and famous isn't all it's cracked up to be. Julie Harrison has learned that love doesn't last, and she's sworn never to make the same mistakes as her mother, or her clients. She uses the games men play to keep them at a distance. The only man who managed to break down her walls was Luke Walker, a Navy SEAL who loved her and left her, and changed her forever.

When Luke arrives back in New York, running Walker Security with his brothers and having left his Navy SEAL days behind, he sets his sights on Julie, the woman he's always wanted and couldn't have. Except, she runs from him every time he gets close.

But now, one of Julie's clients, a powerful judge, gets involved with a dangerous cartel, and his soon-to-be-ex wife ends up dead. Julie's next on the list, and she finds herself on the run from those who believe she knows too much, and counting on Luke to keep her alive. In the deepest, darkest moments of the night, passion will bring them together while danger threatens to tear them apart. Can Julie and Luke trust each other and find their happy ending before they find ... the end?

Excerpt:

Her hand went to his wrist and heat darted up his arm, but it was the vulnerable, insecure look on her face that undid him. She didn't think he wanted her. Despite his attention, despite the kisses that would, and should have, set off a five-alarm blaze, she didn't know.

He slid his hand to her neck. "I only want one woman and that's you."

"Then act like it, Luke," she said, "because you're confusing me and I don't know what you want. I--"

He covered her mouth with his and for the first time since his return, he let her taste his desire, let her feel the hunger inside him that no one had sated since her. His hand slid over the sexy curve of her hip to the dip of her tiny waist.

Her arms wrapped around his neck, and she molded herself to his body. She was no longer vulnerable or timid. She was the seductress she could be, the seductress he knew had just lured him to the very place he'd sworn he wouldn't go. To the land of lust and forgetfulness where she ruled, where sex was a weapon, and a wall of separation grew despite the absence of clothing.

I want me a Seal or in this case an ex-Seal. Luke is definitely a sexy alpha hero and I want me one. He is so protective maybe a little overprotective and that is not good for Julie with her issues. Though this book can defintely stand on its own it left a few major issues unresolved and I am so hoping that the next brother's book will take care of that.  This book has it all romance, sex, suspense, sex, drama, and did I mention hot sex plus some truly scuzzy bad guys. If you love books with seals, sex, or suspense this series is a must read for you. And btw this book though it was part of a series it reads very well as a standalone.

Lisa sent me a digital copy of this book with the only requirement that I post an honest review. I give this book a 4 1/2 stars and am looking forward to the other two in this series.

Review: Hot Vampire Seduction by Lisa Renee Jones

Hot Vampire Seduction

Hot Vampire Seduction

The underground vampire population of Austin, Texas has taken to hosting orgies with human women who’ve been forced to indulge in a new aphrodisiac. The drug, Blood Red, is a mixture of a rare type of werewolf blood and that of a vampire. Blood Red creates an insatiable desire for sex in the user to the point of pain in the absence of pleasure. Sometimes that pain leads to death.

Vampire Warden, Aiden Brooks, has spent more than a hundred years enforcing the laws of his race, and life has taught him that anyone that he allows into his world ends up dead. Despite knowing this all too well, having painfully loved and lost in his past, when his search for the creator of Blood Red places coroner Kelly Riggs directly in both his path, and that of a dangerous clan of vampires, his desire for her goes well beyond offering her protection. He’s drawn to her bravery, seduced by her feisty spirit and beauty, but he is determined to resist her, fearing he will put her in harms way. But Kelly is already on the radar of the enemy, and when she gets too close to the evil vampire clan’s secrets, she is given Blood Red. Now Aiden’s hunger for her might be the only thing that can keep her alive but who will save her from him?

I just finished this book today. And it was fantanstic. Loved Lisa's take on vamps especially their natural evolutions. And Kelly is one of my alltime favorite heroines. She smart, feisty, beautiful, and cuts right to the chase. She's also not one to allow her fear to control her. She controls it. She gives as good as she gets. Of course Aiden as the older, sexy, vamp is wonderful but he's proves that old vamps can learn new tricks. And of course the menage doesn't hurt this book one bit lol. I am so waiting for Troy book and I am looking forward learning more about Marcus. I am going to have to get the first one this weekend. I was sent this one by the author and I give it 4 1/2 stars.

Review: Touch of Crimson by Sylvia Day

A Touch of Crimson

Product Description

FIRST IN A NEW SERIES! CAN TRUE LOVE SURVIVE A WAR BETWEEN ANGELS, VAMPIRES, AND LYCANS?

Adrian Mitchell is a powerful angel leading an elite Special Ops unit of Seraphim. His task is to punish the Fallen--angels who have become vampires--and command a restless pack of indentured lycans. But Adrian has suffered his own punishment for becoming involved with mortals--losing the woman he loves again and again. Now, after nearly two hundred years, he has found her--Shadoe--her soul once more inhabiting a new body, with no memory of him. And this time, he won't let her go...

To me it is very ironic that Adrian punished the Fallen for the same thing he does. He tore their wings off and made them vampires for daring to mate with humans.   Granted his mate was half angel half human since she was the daughter of one of the Fallen and a mortal.  But she was partially human so in my opinion that's the same thing. I really liked this book and think that is a new take on vamps and angels. I am looking forward to reading more in this series. My only problem with this book was that it ended rather abruptly. I'm not sure if this was the issue with the book or the e-version I received from Netgalley. At least Adrian and Lindsey aka Shadoe were together but there were several issues with who was orchestrating the war between the fallen, angels and lycans that were never solved. According to the clues it looks like it could be several folks bringing this about including at least one angel.

Like I said I am awaiting the next book very impatiently lol. This book was provided electronically from Netgalley free of charge for an honest and unbiased review. I give this book 4 stars

Review:This Side of the Grave by Jeannine Frost

Product Description

Danger waits on both sides of the grave.

Half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her vampire husband Bones have fought for their lives, as well as for their relationship. But just when they've triumphed over the latest battle, Cat's new and unexpected abilities threaten to upset a long-standing balance...

With the mysterious disappearance of vampires, rumors abound that a species war is brewing. A zealot is inciting tensions between the vampires and ghouls, and if these two powerful groups clash, innocent mortals could become collateral damage. Now Cat and Bones are forced to seek help from a dangerous "ally"--the ghoul queen of New Orleans herself. But the price of her assistance may prove more treacherous than even the threat of a supernatural war. ...to say nothing of the repercussions Cat never imagined.

I loved this book. As normal Cat and Bones are great. Their relationship is solid but Apollyon is determined to end Cat one way or another and has stirred up the ghouls to that end. And if the vamps knew how she fed and what it does for her a bunch of them would be glad to help. With the help of their new ally they manage to avert all out war but it leaves Cat to face the consequences which might be more than she can handle. We shall see. I am looking forward to the next one in this series as well as as the spin-offs. This one was not as meaty as some of the others but overall was a well enjoyed read. I give it 4 stars and I bought and paid for this one all on my lonesome.

Review: Tangled Threads by Jennifer Estep

Product Description

I’d rather face a dozen lethal assassins any night than deal with something as tricky, convoluted, and fragile as my feelings.

But here I am. Gin Blanco, the semi-retired assassin known as the Spider. Hovering outside sexy businessman Owen Grayson’s front door like a nervous teenage girl. One thing I like about Owen: he doesn’t shy away from my past—or my present. And right now I have a bull’s-eye on my forehead. Cold-blooded Fire elemental Mab Monroe has hired one of the smartest assassins in the business to trap me. Elektra LaFleur is skilled and efficient, with deadly electrical elemental magic as potent as my own Ice and Stone powers. Which means there’s a fifty-fifty chance one of us won’t survive this battle. I intend to kill LaFleur—or die trying—because Mab wants the assassin to take out my baby sister, Detective Bria Coolidge, too. The only problem is, Bria has no idea I’m her long-lost sibling . . . or that I’m the murderer she’s been chasing through Ashland for weeks. And what Bria doesn’t know just might get us both dead. . . .

I absolutely love this series. And in this book Jennifer pulls us further into Gin's world and we learn more Owen whom I am hoping is a good as he seems. Mab makes a bad mistake in this book by going after Bria and of course we all know how Gin handles threats to those she loves. This allows us to find more about Gin's powers and how she's just as powerful an Ice Elemental as she is a Stone. I'm hoping Gin takes Mab out cause we find out that she'll use anyone to get information that she needs. I am so looking forward to the next book this to see her get her just deserts lol. I am going to give this one a 4 1/2 stars. I purchased this book for my own personal use.

Review: Hunger by Jackie Morse Kessler

Overview .

"Thou art the Black Rider. Go thee out unto the world."

Lisabeth Lewis has a black steed, a set of scales, and a new job: she’s been appointed Famine. How will an anorexic seventeen-year-old girl from the suburbs fare as one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse?
Traveling the world on her steed gives Lisa freedom from her troubles at home—her constant battle with hunger, and her struggle to hide it from the people who care about her. But being Famine forces her to go places where hunger is a painful part of everyday life, and to face the horrifying effects of her phenomenal power. Can Lisa find a way to harness that power—and the courage to fight her own inner demons?

A wildly original approach to the issue of eating disorders, Hunger is about the struggle to find balance in a world of extremes, and uses fantastic tropes to explore a difficult topic that touches the lives of many teens.

This book was a hard read for me and I almost didn't finish not because of the writing which was excellent. This one was all on the the heroine. In most of the book she was a very weak heroine and let her inner voice drive her nuts. Even though I'm a big woman I am strong enough that even though it bothers me I don't think I could ever do this to myself and what she put her boyfriend and friend through was not right. I know lots of folks especially teen girls go through these same things and for that I wish them strength and peace to handle it. But for me I read for enjoyment and I didn't receive much from this book. Even though I liked the ending I won't be reading any more in this series.  But maybe if some teen is going through issues with this maybe this book would help them or give them an opening to discuss with their parents.

Overall I give this book a 2.5 stars and I was given a copy of this book for review by Netgalley with no other compensation.

Review: Alien in the Family by Gini Koch

Product Description

Super-Being Exterminator Kitty Katt and the Alpha Centaurian she loves, Jeff Martini, should be finalizing their wedding plans. But that was before she discovers Jeff is in line to become Emperor back on his home world. Kitty knows she is everything a royal family wouldn't approve of, and is bracing herself for the worst. As it turns out, the royal family is just the beginning. Especially when extraterrestrial Amazonian terrorists are determined to start and end Kitty and Jeff's nuptial festivities with a bang.

This story kept me hanging on the edge of my seat as to what the heck could happen next. This one was another book by Ms Koch that was like getting on the biggest, wildest, roller coaster ride around. She doesn't stop with the action until the book stops lol. And that had to be the funniest, wildest, and craziest wedding I've ever read about. And the end with Martini knowing certain things before she does was hilarious.

I hope Ms. Koch keeps writing books for a long, long time because I will certainly be buying whatever she writes. This series is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I give this book a 5 stars.

This book was purchased for my personal pleasure and if you not read these books you need to run to the book store and purchase them all.

Review: Goddess With a Blade by Lauren Dane

Product Description

Rowan Summerwaite is no ordinary woman. Physical vessel to the Celtic Goddess Brigid and raised by the leader of the Vampire Nation, she's a supercharged hunter with the power to slay any vampire who violates the age-old treaty.

A recent string of murders has her at odds with Las Vegas's new Scion, the arrogant and powerful Clive Stewart. The killings have the mark of Vampire all over them, and Rowan warns Clive to keep his people in line—or she'll mete out her own brand of justice.

Though her dealings with Clive are adversarial to say the least, Rowan is intensely aware of her attraction to him. But she can't let it distract her from her duty—to find and battle the killer before more women die

I love Lauren's take on vampires. Its very fresh and different what with an agreement between the vamps and the hunters. Very different indeed. And with the addition of who raised Rowen and her family history it makes for one conflicted heroine which I liked. And Clive he's very arrogant and sure of himself which makes Rowan either want to kill him or kiss him. Sometimes its a toss up as to which way she'll go lol.

If you like Lauren's other books you'll like this one too. It was a very good story with great characters. I didn't think her characters were as fleshed out as some of her other books and that her secondary characters weren't as good in this book as some of her others like her Chance series but this was still a good book. I give it 3 1/2 stars

I received a copy of this one from Netgalley for review purposes only and no other consideration.

Review: Alien Tango by Gini Koch

Product Description

It's been five months since marketing manager Katherine "Kitty" Katt started working with the aliens from Alpha Centauri, and she and Jeff Martini are getting closer. But when an experimental spacecraft is mysteriously returned to the Kennedy Space Center, Kitty and the rest of her team are called in to investigate. Now the team must survive murderous attacks, remove a space entity from a group of astronauts, and avoid an unhinged woman with a serious crush on Kitty's high school boyfriend. And that's all before evil masterminds decide Kitty's extermination is vital.

I loved the first book in this series but this one topped even that one. Kitty and Jeff are a great couple. And even though everything is not all roses and champagne they work through their problems which unfortunately includes almost in laws, bombs, secret government orgs, best friends who secretly love you, and secret human groups against aliens. This book is hopping from word to word. after reading it you feel like you've been on the world's fastest and curviest coaster in existence. I loved it. If you love aliens, geeks, or just action at faster than the speed of light this book is for you.

I give it 4 1/2 stars.  And found this beauty at my local USB and snapped it up pronto.

Review: Kitty Goes to War by Carrie Vaughn

Description

Kitty Norville, Alpha werewolf and host of The Midnight Hour, a radio call-in show, is contacted by a friend at the NIH's Center for the Study of Paranatural Biology. Three Army soldiers recently returned from the war in Afghanistan are being held at Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs. They're killer werewolves—and post traumatic stress has left them unable to control their shape-shifting and unable to interact with people. Kitty agrees to see them, hoping to help by bringing them into her pack.

Meanwhile, Kitty gets sued for libel by CEO Harold Franklin after featuring Speedy Mart--his nationwide chain of 24-hour convenience stores with a reputation for attracting supernatural unpleasantness--on her show.

Very bad weather is on the horizon

I love this series. Kitty is a great heroine. She may be a werewolf but she's like a normal person too and has the same insecurities and  feeling that just regular folks have but she also has a wolf to control on top of that. In this book she has to help the government help, stop, or contain the four werewolves that were created not by the government but a werewolf that was special ops. Who when he died left four weres in a pickle and nobody around but Kitty to help them or alternately have them put down. On top of this she has to deal with a sorcerer who uses his power to create natural disasters. And she finds out that Cormac has picked up a buddy in prison. This book has all the usual suspects and we learn more about some of them. I can't wait for the next book in this series.

I purchased this book for my own personal use and I give it 4 stars.

Review: Ecstasy in Darkness by Gena Showalter

New York Times bestselling sensation Gena Showalter enthralls with a dark, tantalizing world of humans, otherworlders, powers beyond imagining, and a seductive vampire undone by his insatiable hunger for one woman. . . .Growing up poor on New Chicago’s meanest streets, Ava Sans had two options: be the predator or be the prey. Once the leader of the entire vampire army, McKell has been deemed savage and unstable, spurned even by his own kind.To McKell, humans should be nothing more than sustenance. But the answers will come at a price, even for a woman who thought she had nothing left to lose. . .

If you like heroines that are bitches that wouldn't be caught dead in heels then Ave Sans is your girl. She mean, devious, snarky, and hell on wheels not to mention that she would make a great bff if you are the type of girl that your bff could call you a fat ass cow and make you laugh.  She also will not be caught dead in designer anything and would take the world on for her people. She grew up poor and she's very possessive of her stuff.. Her and her bff/partner Noelle are tasked with bringing in McKell but he gets the drop on them. But he doesn't hurt them and for some reason becomes enamored with Ava. And Ava has nothing on a possessive McKell. He's all about the mine.  while they are dancing around each other he has to avoid these doorways that try and suck him in and she and Noelle and the rest of the AIR agents try and apprehend the Schon Queen so she will quit spreading her disease.

I love this series and am so looking forward to Noelle's book. I'll read anything that Gena Showalter writes cause she is just that good. I purchased this one my self and I give it a 4 1/2 stars.

Review: I'll be Slaying you by Cynthia Eden

Cynthia Eden returns to the realm of the Other, where the supernatural bounty hunters of Night Watch work hard and play harder...

Sandra "Dee" Daniels is a vampire's worst nightmare. Sure, she couldn't get up to five-six in the highest heels money can buy--not that she ever wears heels. But the monsters in her past and the stake in her boot are enough to keep most bloodsuckers interested in staying undead out of Baton Rouge.

But there are changes afoot on her turf. Rumors of a Born Master in town--a vampire so powerful he can make the streets run with blood. And a new face in Dee's dive bars and alleyways--Simon Chase, a strong, sexy shadow with a haunted past of his own. Simon knows a lot about the dark side of Dee's work. He knows even more about how to make her body spark with desire. But the hot lust shimmering between them is only the beginning. Because Simon also knows a secret that will change Dee's life--if she can live long enough to uncover it.

Man Dee is a firecracker. I've heard that dynamite comes in small packages and she more than proves it.  And oh man this book puts her through hell. How would you like to become the thing you loathe. The thing that killed your family and made you watch. Well that happened to DeeAnn but she smart and mean and she learns that not all vamps are evil especially not Chase her lover and partner. I wanted Dee's book since I first read about her a couple of books back. and I wasn't disappointed. If you've not read this series you'd better hurry and catch up. Cause the next one is I hope is about a demon and hopefully a witch.  Zane needs his happy every after and I hope that it bites him in butt first lol.

I give this one 5 stars and I won this one in a contest from another blog without any promises made.

Review: Play of Passion by Nalini Singh

In his position as Tracker for the SnowDancer pack, Drew Kincaid must rein in rogue changelings who've lost control of their animal halves- even if it means killing those who've gone too far. But nothing in his life has prepared him for the battle he must now wage-to win the heart of a woman who makes his body ignite...and who threatens to enslave his wolf.

As one of my favorite authors I was so ready for another one in this series and Drew and Indigo did not disappoint. I love that Indigo is her own woman and a leader among the enforcers for the Snow Dancer Pack. An Drew is well he is a league of his own. And this gives Indigo all kinds of problems. She doesn't understand that though she outranks Drew in Pack hierarchy that he may just be her match. Nature thinks so but Indigo is harder to convince. Add in an attack by the Psy and all the change going in with all three species this book definitely goes a mile a second. And for those Hawk lovers like me we get some teasing glimpses of what his book is going to be like.

I give this one a 5 star

Thsi book was purchase by me for my personal pleasure.

Stacia Kane's Downside series Book 2 & 3 review

Product Description

ENEMIES DON’T NEED TO BE ALIVE TO BE DEADLY.

For Chess Putnam, finding herself near-fatally poisoned by a con psychic and then stopping a murderous ghost is just another day on the job. As an agent of the Church of Real Truth, Chess must expose those looking to profit from the world’s unpleasant little poltergeist problem—humans filing false claims of hauntings—all while staving off any undead who really are looking for a kill. But Chess has been extra busy these days, coping with a new “celebrity” assignment while trying on her own time to help some desperate prostitutes.

Someone’s taking out the hookers of Downside in the most gruesome way, and Chess is sure the rumors that it’s the work of a ghost are way off base. But proving herself right means walking in the path of a maniac, not to mention standing between the two men in her life just as they—along with their ruthless employers—are moving closer to a catastrophic showdown. Someone is dealing in murder, sex, and the supernatural, and once again Chess finds herself right in the crossfire.

This book just dragged me further into Chess's world. I loved this series and I never thought I'd like a series about an addict and an enforcer for a drug dealer but I do. These two characters are so damaged that I wonder if they can ever make a serious go of it. Its sort of like a train wreck you don't want to watch it but can't make yourself stop. And Ms. Kane world building is like nothing I've ever read. Very original and fresh. Beware this book ends in my opinion with a big ole cliff hanger with Chess and Terrible more like adversaries. But you know what they say there is a fine line between love and hate. And I was never so glad as to the fact that I started this series late and was able to read the 2 and 3 back to back or I'd probably been pestering Ms. Kane for hints. I give this one a 4 1/2 stars.

IT’S A THIN LINE BETWEEN ALIVE AND UNDEAD.

Chess Putnam has a lot on her plate. Mangled human corpses have started to show up on the streets of Downside, and Chess’s bosses at the Church of Real Truth have ordered her to team up with the ultra-powerful Black Squad agency to crack the grisly case.

Chess is under a binding spell that threatens death if she talks about the investigation, but the city’s most notorious crime boss—and Chess’s drug dealer—gets wind of her new assignment and insists on being kept informed. If that isn’t bad enough, a sinister street vendor appears to have information Chess needs. Only he’s not telling what he knows, or what it all has to do with the vast underground City of Eternity.

Now Chess will have to navigate killer wraiths, First Elders, and a lot of seriously nasty magic—all while coping with some not-so-small issues of her own. And the only man Chess can trust to help her through it all has every reason to want her dead.

In this book we learn more about the Church and its workings. Also in this book finally and I mean finally brings Chess and Terrible together. This happens after much crap happening to and with Chess which almost ended her literally. I'm not wanting to give too much away but this book tested Chess to her limits mentally and psychically. And showed me she is stronger than she knows. I understand that there are more books coming in this series and I am looking forward to them. This one gets 4/12/ stars from me.

FYI I purchased both of these book for my own personal pleasure.

I was so stoked to meet Stacia Kane at Dragoncon this year. Hopefully she'll come back next year now that I've finally read her books.

Mini Review: Magic Bleeds by Ilona Andrews

Product Description

Kate Daniels cleans up the paranormal problems no one else wants to deal with-especially if they involve Atlanta's shapeshifting community.

And now there's a new player in town-a foe that may be too much for even Kate and Curran, the Lord of the Beasts, to handle. Because this time, Kate will be taking on family.

Loved it. Finally Kate & Curran. All I can say about that is Dayumn it took the girl long enough. We also learn more about Kate, her family, Curran, and pack politics. I wanted to crawl into this book and kick some folks butts myself.  I am dying to read the next one. Hum wondering how I can get a copy of that one. I wonder it bribery would work lol.

I bought this one myself and received no compensation for this review. I am giving this one 5 stars. And yep I think it was that good.

Review: Taken by Midnight by Lara Adrian

Product Description

AT THE CROSSROADS OF DEATH AND DESIRE, A WOMAN TASTES A PLEASURE NO MORTAL IS MEANT TO SURVIVE.

In the frozen Alaskan wilderness, former state trooper Jenna Darrow survives an unspeakable breach of body and soul. But with her narrow escape comes an even greater challenge. For strange changes are taking place within her, as she struggles to understand—and control—a new hunger. To do so, she will seek shelter in the Boston compound of the Order, an ancient race of vampire warriors whose very existence is shrouded in mystery. Perhaps the most mysterious of them all is Brock, a brooding, dark-eyed alpha male whose hands hold the power to comfort, heal . . . and arouse.

As she recovers under Brock’s care, Jenna finds herself drawn to the Order’s mission: to stop a ruthless enemy and its army of assassins from subjecting Earth to a reign of terror. Yet in spite of their resolve, a purely physical relationship without strings soon binds Brock and Jenna together with a desire fiercer than life and stronger than death itself—until a secret from Brock’s past and Jenna’s own mortality challenges their forbidden love to the ultimate trial by fire.

This book is hard to review without giving away all the secrets of the book. I can say that Jenna is one of the strongest heroines I've ever read. Her life has been one bomb dropped on her after another. But she takes it and comes out fighting. I hope that if I had to face the adversities that she has I would face them with the grace and courage she shows. And Brock sheesh fanning myself. Brock is so protective and tender with her that you root for them from the beginning. What with whatever the ancient did to Jenna and with Brock's secret resurfacing they have more than their share of things that could separate them but only the simplest thing to keep them together. If you could call love simple that is. My only thing about this book is that it left plenty of questions unanswered. Almost but not quite too many cause I am a impatient sort of woman. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in this series.

I bought this one on my own and was not compensated in any way for this review. I give it 4 1/2 stars.
