Book Tour and Giveaway: Shadow Fall by Laura Griffin

 Shadow Fall
The Tracers #9
By: Laura Griffin

Releasing September 22, 2015

Pocket Books

Blurb

In the ninth romantic suspense novel in the New York Times bestselling Tracers series, author Laura Griffin brings back her elite cadre of forensic experts as they hunt down the most brutal serial killer yet.
Special Agent Tara Rushing arrives at a grisly murder scene and quickly discovers she’s got a serial killer on her hands. The killer is meticulous, making sure to wipe up even the smallest traces of evidence…but the Delphi Center experts are on the case.

The local sheriff has a suspect all picked out—ex-Marine and current security expert Liam Wolfe. Despite all her digging, Tara knows very little about Liam when she shows up at his sprawling Texas compound, which serves as headquarters for Wolfe Security, and she’s surprised by her intense physical reaction to him.

As she and Liam grow closer, Tara finds herself depending on his skills and expertise to help her track a killer. But when another body turns up, Tara must decide if she can trust the man who’s quickly stealing her heart.

The ninth novel in the Tracers series that combines gripping plot twists with spine-tingling romance, Shadow Fall once again proves that “Laura Griffin gets better with each book” (The Romance Reviews).

Tara looked out the window again and realized her pulse was still thrumming. He unnerved her. It wasn’t just his size, it was his attitude. Maybe she was self-conscious because he’d caught her off guard. She was definitely embarrassed that she’d pulled her weapon on him.
She adjusted the vent and got a waft of hot air. His attitude bothered her, but she liked his truck. It smelled like leather and earth and felt deliciously warm. She forced herself to ignore the flutter of nerves generated by being alone in the dark with him. The nerves weren’t from fear but something else. And she wondered which was worse, being afraid of a man she was investigating or being attracted to him?
“You shouldn’t come out here alone.”
She looked at him. “Why not?"
“We’ve got more than a few meth heads around here. You don’t want to walk up on something, not without backup.”
She watched his face in the dimness, uneasy with the protective tone of his voice.
“We confirmed the ID today,” she said.
“I know.”
That ticked her off.
“Won’t be long till the media has it,” he added.
“Where are you getting your information?”
He didn’t answer.
“And the other day,” she said, “how’d you know we were here, me and M.J.? Are you having us tailed?”
Even if he was, he’d probably never admit it. But she at least needed to ask and get his reaction. Shadowing investigators could definitely be considered suspicious behavior.
Although she had to be honest with herself. She didn’t consider him a real suspect. Despite his links to the victim, she simply didn’t feel it.
“I’m guessing you filmed us approaching your property and ran my plate,” she said.
The corner of his mouth lifted. “Nothing that cloak-and- dagger.” He glanced at her. “I’m friends with Crystal.”
“Who’s Crystal?”
“She waited on you at the Waffle Stop. Bright red hair, eyebrow ring.”
She turned to face the window. “Small-town grapevine. And here I’ve been all impressed with your spying abilities.”
“You should be.” He pulled up to her Explorer and parked. “We’re the best there is.”
She looked at him in the darkness, so confident it bordered on arrogance. And the crazy thing was she believed him. She bought into it completely—he was that good.
His eyes locked on hers, and the air between them felt charged with electricity. His gaze dropped to her mouth, and her heart skittered. Was he going to kiss her? He eased closer, watching her, making her heart pound.

Review: To Win a Mate by Krystal Shannan

Jared VonBrandt wasn't looking for a mate, but when the amber-eyed New Orleans beauty, Elise Blanchard is staring at him from a charity auction block, he can't deny his wolf's desire.
He'll win her at any cost.
Elise Blanchard has never met another werewolf. She spends her full-moon nights locked in her apartment, hoping the neighbors don't see her shift.
A twist of fate gives her an opportunity she'll risk everything to claim.
VonBrandt Family, in series order...
To Save A Mate
To Love A Mate
To Win A Mate
To Find A Mate (Coming Soon)

This book is the third book in the VonBrandt werewolf series. It's not a very big book but it is a complete story. It was a very fast paced and enjoyable read. I liked that Jared got his in this book. He kinda sorta poked fun at his cousins when they found their mate and mated them so fast. And wham bam it happened to him too. I was tickled for Elise that she found a family after her childhood and so glad she got away from her sleazy boss.
My only issue with this book was that I'd like to have learned more about Elise's past and maybe even what happened when she first changed. That would have been an interesting story. I really enjoyed this story and it was a fast fun little read.
I was given this book by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review and I give it 4 stars.

Review and Giveway: Stranded with the Cyborg by Cara Bristol

Stranded with the Cyborg
(A Cy-Ops Sci-fi Romance)
By Cara Bristol
Blurb:
The daughter of the Terran president, Penelope Aaron resented the restrictions imposed upon her, but that was no reason to take it out on the man assigned to protect her. She regrets how she got Agent Brock Mann booted from the security force. But now that she’s an interplanetary ambassador about to embark on her first diplomatic mission, she still doesn’t want him tagging along. Especially since he seems to be stronger, faster, more muscled, and sexier than she remembers. And pretending to be her husband?  This mission couldn’t get more impossible!
Ten years ago Penelope Isabella Aaron had been a pain in Brock Mann’s you-know-what. Much has changed in a decade: “PIA” as he code-named her, has grown up and is about to attend her first Alliance of Planets summit conference, and Brock was transformed into a cyborg after a near-fatal attack. Now a secret agent with Cyber Operations, a covert paramilitary organization, Brock gets called in, not when the going gets tough, but when the going gets impossible. So when he’s unexpectedly assigned to escort Penelope to the summit meeting, he balks at babysitting a prissy ambassador. But after a terrorist bombing, a crash landing on a hostile planet, and a growing attraction to his protectee, Operation: PIA may become his most impossible assignment yet.

Excerpt

Different, my ass. At the Interplanetary Shuttle Port, Brock leaned against a pillar outside the arrival gate of Pia’s incoming flight and erased from his face all indication of how steamed he was. Pia had lived up to her former code name. She hadn’t changed a bit. He’d have been really pissed if he’d gotten all the way to Terra and then been informed his protectee had gone AWOL. Fortunately, he hadn’t yet boarded his shuttle when Cy-Ops had received word through a secure channel Pia was headed for the ISP. All he had to do was round her up.

All I have to do. He snorted. Nothing involving Pia was ever easy.

The computerized voice announced the landing, but Brock remained where he was and scrutinized the crowd for potential threats. After the craft taxied to the dock and locked to the terminal bridge, passengers began to disembark.

A carryall slung over her shoulder, a naked Pia sashayed into the terminal. She wasn’t technically nude, but Brock’s cyber-enhanced vision could see right through her travel uniform. Only a cascade of blue-black hair streaming to her waist impeded a full view. As she moved, her hair swung, giving him a peep show of generous breasts tipped by rosy nipples. Nothing obscured the tantalizing mound of her sex, the curls trimmed to a neat vee.

Brock yanked his gaze to her face. Thick lashes framed violet eyes over high cheekbones and a cute little chin that masked her stubbornness. The gonna-be-pretty-someday teenager had transformed into a stunning, breathtakingly beautiful woman with a flawless, creamy complexion.

Blood rushed south, and Brock immediately activated his nanocytes to cool the heat. She had no enhanced vision, and his uniform wasn’t transparent, but his erection would be obvious if he didn’t control it.

She was his current protectee, a former accuser, a spoiled, entitled, vindictive hellion who’d derailed his CPO career, all facts his body continued to ignore. This was Carter’s fault. If the director hadn’t interrupted him before he could avail himself of the services of a Darius 4 pleasure droid, he wouldn’t be reacting this way. If his former friend and current superior officer hadn’t forced this assignment on him, he wouldn’t be here at all.

Fuck it all to hell. Brock shoved off from the post.

Pia stopped dead, blocking disembarking passengers. Her jaw dropped, and her huge violet eyes widened more. “Agent Mann?” She hadn’t gotten any taller—she didn’t even top his shoulder.

“Ambassador,” he growled, mad at her, angry with Carter, and furious with himself.

She licked her lips. “W-what are you doing here?”

He took her arm and led her out of the traffic flow. “Is that a question to ask your…husband?” If she was his wife, his real wife, he’d make damn sure she never wore another travel uniform. It didn’t matter that only machine scanners, droids, and cyborgs could see through it.

She jerked and snapped back her head. “You’re my bodyguard? No, absolutely not.” She wrenched her arm out of his grasp. “Despite what my mother believes, I don’t need a babysitter, and certainly not you. You may return to whatever other duties you have,” she said like she was dismissing an android.

“I don’t take orders from you,” he said. “I issue them. You’ll do what I tell you to do.” He leaned in. The scent of her hair swirled around him. “My orders to ensure your safety supersede your assignment. If that means tossing you over my shoulder and putting you on the first flight to Terra, so be it.”

Review:
SFR is my very favorite genre to read but for some reason very hard for me to find books to enjoy. When I was offered this story in exchange for a fair and honest review I was tickled. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It wasn't too technical though there were plenty of the required cool gadgets and tech in this story. The author didn't go into detail about how things worked they just did.  Which works for me because just like in the real world I don't need to know how a car works just  that it does.
Even though Pia and Brock have a prior history it works in this story because even though she acted like a spoiled brat when she was a teenager she has finally grown up now. Brock does have some issues in regards to that but quickly finds out that Pia is not the same person anymore.  And who has time to dwell on the past when the future is coming at you fast and furiously. There is plenty of action adventure in this book. And these two do find time to fall in love. Brock saves Pia and Pia gets her job done. So they do manage to win over the bad guys this time at least. They won the battle but the war rages on. I don't know if this a series or not but if not it needs to be. This one worked well as a standalone but I was a little confused about the bad guys like why did they do what they did and what is their ultimate agenda.
All considered though this was a fantastic SFR story and from a new to  me author so I am definitely going to check out her other stories. A few  minor issues like figuring out the bad guy motive and agenda but nothing that seriously detracts from the story. So I am giving this book 4 1/2 stars.
And as a noted I was given this book in exchange for fair and honest review.

Book Tour and Giveaway: The Demon's Deadline (Demon's Assistant Book 1)

Welcome to the Demon's Assistant Series blitz tour! The Demon's Assistant Series is by Tori Centanni and is a young adult urban fantasy. Check out the books and enter the giveaway for a $25 Amazon gift card!

TheDemonsDeadline-2About The Demon's Deadline (Demon's Assistant Book 1):

Some teenagers deliver pizza, some deliver newspapers. My part-time job? I deliver mysterious envelopes for a demon. I don’t even get tips.

It seemed like a good deal at the time. I almost died in a car accident, and Azmos saved me… gave me a second chance. At first, it wasn’t so bad. I got to live, go to high school, hang out with my boyfriend Cam. He’s too cute for his own good, but he’s getting tired of all this demon stuff. I hate lying to my best friend Melissa and my dad, who's still not over my mom's death. Neither am I.

But now, this gig is getting dangerous, and it’s not like I can quit. Even if I could, then what? I’ve seen things I can’t unsee. I just hope I can figure out how to navigate the darkness before I do something I can’t undo.

It’s time I face my own demons.
------------------------
About Gabriel's Demons (Demon's Assistant Book 1.5):
My name is Gabriel Price, and I’m no stranger to bad dreams.

After losing my family in a house fire, I suppose it’s normal to have nightmares. Except now, I’m dreaming awake, seeing things I don’t want to see, things I shouldn’t be able to see.

The first time I saw someone’s death, the vision hit me hard, just like the speeding car that crashed, killing its driver. There was nothing I could do to stop it from happening. Not the first time. Or the second. Or the third. But now…I think I might have a chance to prevent my visions from coming true.

It’s a gift to be able to stop someone from dying, right? The demon who’s interested in my ability thinks so, but I’m not about to accept the deal he's offering. My inner demons give me enough hell. I don't need even more.
------------------------
About In the Demon's Company (Demon's Assistant Book 2):
inthedemonscompany-3There’s a new demon in town… …and my boss, Azmos, isn’t happy about it. I guess he doesn’t like competition in the soul-binding business.

Meanwhile, my Chemistry teacher seems to be caught up in this magical mess, so I’m anxious to get to the bottom of what's going on. Now that Az has promoted me from errand girl to demon’s apprentice I might actually be able to do something to help. Of course, my boyfriend Cam wants me to stay out of it, and for once Azmos actually agrees with him.

Sorry, but I can’t just sit around doing homework while a demon is leaving a trail of bodies all over town. Besides, I’ve got my own posse now. Okay, I’ve got an ice-cold death demon, a tortured psychic and a pink-haired demonologist to help me. Together we’ll figure it out, and I’ll prove I’m ready to be a full-fledged apprentice…or I’ll die trying.

Review: Dragon on Top by G.A. Aiken

I am Ghleanna the Decimator. I am a warrior. A soldier. I know no fear. No pain. No mercy. I do, however, know acute embarrassment! How could I not after getting dumped by a bastard dragon in front of my own troops? So I tuck tail and return to my cave, drowning my sorrows in ale—as is my family’s way. But instead of leaving me to my misery, I’ve been summoned to the Dragon Queen’s court.

As if my life wasn’t pathetic enough, Her Majesty now has me escorting the highborn Bram the Merciful through dangerous territories—not exactly the best use of my military training. And just so he can negotiate with enemy dragons instead of battling them? Honestly, what has my world come to? Then again…Bram is quite easy on the eyes. And the perfect distraction for what ails me. Perhaps I’m looking at all this the wrong way. Maybe there is a place for a little “mercy” in my life…

First things first how the heck did I miss one of her books. I love anything she writes and her books are a must buy for me. How I missed this I don't know.
I love Ghleanna. She embodies everything you'd expect in an Aiken female dragon. And her family what can I say but they are always hilarious. I especially wouldn't mind if she'd write the twins Kennis and Kyna a story. They cracked me up in this book.
Bram even though he is called Bram the Merciful is a highborn and a good negotiator but he is not without defenses. And as he says his mercy only goes so far and traitors are not entitled to any. Love that the dragon that dumped Ghleanna got his in the end and from her no less. My only issue with this was that it was novella.  But it was a complete and wonderful story and action packed from start to finish.
I give this 5 stars and am anxiously awaiting her next book as either her or her alter ego Shelly Laurenston.  If you want to purchase this the link is below.

Review: Under His Skin by Stacey O'Neale

Bakery owner Annabelle Sparks’ business is booming ever since she won reality TV's Cupcake Wars. The one thing deflating her happy soufflé? The extremely sexy Kaden Chance only sees her as a best friend–and Annabelle wants so much more. After waiting a year for him recognize their chemistry, she’s giving up and dating other people.

What she doesn't know is Kaden's heart doesn't actually beat. He's not human. Heck, he's not even from Earth. To retain his intergalactic immunity, no one can ever know he is an extraterrestrial. But when Annabelle starts dating, something strange happens to Kaden's unmoved heart: it begins to beat. Now he faces an impossible choice—tell Annabelle the truth and be deported–or lose his last chance at love

I hadn't read this author before and this is one of my favorite genre's. It wasn't very heavy on the scifi but it was heavy on the romance. I think it was a very light fun read. Perfect escapism. I liked that Annabelle and Kaden were friends from the get go. One thing that irked me was the back and forth both of them did on the having this relationship. I understand that the MIB didn't want Kaden to have a relationship with humans but with his brother's power I don't know what the problem was. They could have done what they did much earlier.  And I was glad that Annabelle grew a set towards the end. I am hoping that we might have further stories. Maybe Kaden's brothers. Especially Cam. He
so deserves to find his true mate lol.

I was given this book by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review and I give it a solid 4 stars. You can go here and preorder if this sounds good.

Reviews for The Second Wife:

C:\Users\Jessy\Pictures\Vals event\stars.png

Kishan Paul’s writing shines in this beautifully written psychological thriller filled with heart-gripping emotion as the heroine unearths an inner strength she didn’t know she possessed. – Cait Jarrod, Bestselling Author

"The Second Wife is a poignant story of love, domestic violence, and mental strength. It grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go until you've finished the last page. No wait, it doesn't let go at all… I had the pleasure of betareading it, and the wide range of emotions it stirred in me are still right under the surface." – Lea Bronsen  award winning author of The Perfect Shoot

“This is a gripping story, brilliantly woven from start to finish. I’ll never forget Ally. She’s as real to me as anyone else because her story isn’t some forgettable fictional work. No way you are walking away from this one the same way. I actually took a break between this novel and my next one. I wasn’t ready to begin another journey just yet. Amazing work, Kishan Paul.” – Kristen Shanchez, reader
