Felicity Heaton
Asteria of the Second Legion of demons has messed up. Royally. With a capital everything. Certain that her dark lord is about to end her in the most painful way imaginable, she’s stunned when the fallen angel offers her an uncharacteristic shot at redemption—and determined not to fail him again. With her life on the line, she sets out on a mission that sounds easy but proves to be far from it when a hot slice of angelic eye candy comes storming into her life, stirring dangerous desires and tempting her more than any male before him.

Fifth Commander of the Echelon, the highest order of angels in Heaven and those responsible for hunting demons, he will allow nothing to stand in the way of fulfilling the mission he began close to a century ago so he can finally return to his home. On the verge of securing the half-breed he has been hunting, he can almost taste victory—until a sassy demoness struts into his life, awakening wicked needs and forbidden hungers that will test him to his limit.

When their mission brings them on a collision course, can they fight the fierce heat of the passion that blazes between them to claim a victory for their side or will it burn their resistance to ashes and set their hearts on fire with a love both forbidden and eternal?

Awakened by a Demoness – Excerpt

He moved through the cobbled street between the squat stone houses that packed the fae town, towering over all of the people who passed him but blending in perfectly. He had mastered the art of it over the past century, learning to dress in the fashion of the era and to keep his head down to avoid drawing too much attention.

The last part was the hardest. As an angel, he had been raised to stand tall and command all those below him with a stern gaze and steady hand suited to his rank, but here in the mortal world he had to do quite the opposite. Even though every creature who occupied the small underground town situated beneath a mountain in the heart of the highlands of Scotland was definitely below him.

Still, he wasn’t here to interact with them. He was here on a mission, steadily closing in on his target, and once this task was concluded, he would be able to return to his duty and Heaven.

It had been a long time since he had set foot in his home, kept away from Echelon Headquarters by his hunt, only able to report his findings through messengers. His comrades believed it vital that he remain in the mortal realm, on hand to detain his target should their paths cross.

He had little love for the mortal world, but his duty had always been here. He had been born to hunt demons and eradicate them, ensuring that all but the stupid ones remained in Hell where they belonged, and were safe from his kin. The fallen angel, Satan, had ensured that by invoking barriers that stripped angels of their powers, rendering them weak in his realm.

This time, it was not a demon on his dance card.

He had been dispatched to locate a female and the fae towns spread across the globe were a perfect hiding place for her, and the perfect place for him to hunt for her, since she had been raised a witch.

His intel, and his orders, said that she wasn’t a witch though. She was a female torn between Heaven and Hell. A product of both realms. She was powerful, but he doubted she knew it, because she didn’t know that she was born of a union between an angel and demon.

A rare half-breed.

It had been two centuries since her mother had fled Heaven and used all of her tricks and powers to conceal herself from the angels hunting for her. When the angels had eventually found her, she had already placed her infant daughter with a witch family and had lost track of her so the angels could interrogate her but would never discover her daughter’s location.

Now, that half-breed believed she was a witch, that her powers came from that blood in her veins, and he had been sent to bring her over to Heaven’s side.

He had been hunting her for close to a century, a mere blip in his lifetime, but one that was beginning to feel like an eternity as it kept him from his home in Heaven.

He felt eyes on him but ignored them as he marched forwards, weaving through the crowded shopping street. Canopies stretched out on both sides, bright jewel coloured canvases decorated with various crests and designs, each unique to the witch running the store. They peddled spells as ridiculous as love potions from the small cramped spaces, allowed their copper stills filled with foul smelling concoctions to stand on the streets and clutter the place, making it even more difficult to move around the town.

His intelligence said the female was here though, somewhere in this busy underground settlement, buried among the several thousand people who occupied it, a mixture of witches, shifters, immortals and fae.

And demons.

The skin on the inside of his right wrist burned and he rubbed it with his left hand, stroking the pad of his thumb across it and feeling the heat of the mark beneath it. He looked down at the stylised black cross on the inside of his wrist and wasn’t surprised to see a faint golden glow emanating from it.

It triggered often when he was in a fae town, warning him of nearby demons.

The burning grew more intense and he stopped and looked at the mark, and then at the creatures moving in colourful streams past him, all going about their business.

Being on the mortal plane had always disturbed him for some reason, but he had never quite figured out why. After speaking with the other Echelon, he had put it down to the mixture of fae, demons and other creatures who mingled with the mortals, and the fact that he rarely crossed paths with his own kind down here. He preferred the company of his own species over the disgusting ensemble of creatures who populated the fae town around him.

The buzzing in his mark faded to a more manageable level, telling him that the demon had moved on. He looked around the street, scanning the faces of everyone present for that of his target, and then moved on, venturing deeper into the town, towards the centre of it.

A clock tower rose ahead of him, high into the cavern, and the sound of music drifted from that direction. He looked around again, noticing for the first time that most of the people in the street were heading in that direction as evening fell in the outside world above them.

It might be a good place to scout for his target.

He followed the flow of foot traffic, mingling with them and pleased with his job of blending. With his wings concealed, and his mortal clothing of thick-soled black leather boots, black jeans and a black t-shirt, he didn’t stand out at all. Many of the Echelon chose to wear robes or their armour when visiting the mortal plane. Nothing drew the eye like a seven-foot-tall male in full regalia with huge white wings.

He had tried explaining the meaning of the word covert to his comrades, and it hadn’t gone down well. Being the youngest at only four hundred and sixty-seven years old, his opinion was often listened to and then immediately discounted.

The thought of having his wings out made the ridges of tissue lining his shoulder blades itch though. It had been too long since he had taken a moment to unleash them and take to the skies. He preened them every night before resting, but it wasn’t the same as flying.

The smell of magic swirled around him, stronger now, and the music grew louder ahead of him, but it didn’t stop a moment of silence from dropping like a shroud over him when the scent of a demon hit him and the mark on his inside right wrist flared hot.

Positively combusted.

Golden light glowed from it and he slapped his hand over it, hiding it as a few heads turned his way, curious gazes drawn by the sudden burst of light.

An urge went through him, dark and dangerous, screaming at him to call his blade.

A demon.

He could feel it somewhere close to him and it wasn’t the normal kind, the sort that crawled from Hell and declared themselves as demons from realms that were numbered.

No. This one was strong, born of the Devil’s blood, still under his command.

He scanned the crowd, hunting for the male responsible for the sudden burning in his wrist, and the rising desire to materialise his sword in his hand and do battle. It was hard to keep his focus when that hunger was clamouring in his blood, his instincts as an angel of the Echelon driving him to destroy the demon threat.

This sort of demon required a more cautious approach though, because some of them were old enough that they were a match for his strength and all had been trained in fighting.

Running headlong into a battle against a demon from the Devil’s ranks would be a mistake, and he wasn’t the sort of male who made mistakes.

He ran his eyes over the people surrounding him again, searching for the demon. Where was he? Satan’s demons rarely left Hell, so what had drawn this one to the surface?

He huffed when he couldn’t spot the male. Perhaps they were down a different street. If they had been on the same one as him, he would have easily spotted them. Most demons from the Devil’s ranks matched his seven-foot height, a gift from their fallen angel DNA.

The music swept back in as the burning in his wrist began to fade and he forced himself to move forwards, towards the square. There seemed to be a festival happening. Now that he was closer, he could see colourful rectangular banners stretched taut across the front vertical beams of wooden stalls selling goods. People formed small groups, with some in the centre dancing to the band that had set up beneath the clock tower.

The festivities distracted him from thoughts of the demon and he managed to quell his mark, so the burning became little more than a dull ache.

Until his eyes settled on a female across the square from him, sitting on a stone ledge that was at least six feet high and formed a pathway that ended in steps that led down into the square to the right of her.

Not his target.

Something else.

He curled his lip at the sight of her, dressed in a rather revealing fashion of a short black corset and even shorter skirt. She swayed as she laughed, swinging a mug in her left hand and spilling some of the contents onto a group of males below her. They all stared up at her, enraptured. Well, almost all of them did. Judging by the angle of some of their heads, they were busy looking up her ridiculously small skirt.

Her wide smile flashed short fangs but it was the black horns that protruded from her long onyx hair and her gender that gave her away.

A demon, from the Devil’s service since that fallen angel had eradicated all females from the ranks of the species who had mutinied against him, those from the numbered kingdoms.

He had never seen a demoness.

He arched an eyebrow as he studied the crowd and noted that the demons from the numbered kingdoms kept their distance from her as diligently as they kept it from him. They were wary of her.

Why?

He stepped into the square.

Her laughter died on painted red lips and her face instantly sobered, her eyes leaping straight to him. They narrowed. The males below her all turned his way. Not demons. They were a mixture of fae and shifters if their appearances were anything to go by.

The demoness calmly set her tankard down on the stone ledge beside her, hopped off it and landed on her feet. The males stepped aside and she stalked towards him, the crowd parting for her and revealing her to him. She didn’t take her eyes off him, not even to acknowledge the males who wolf-whistled or called out lewd things to her.

Those males’ eyes followed her as she sashayed, swinging her curvy hips.

Temptress.

Her ways wouldn’t work on him though.

He stood his ground as she approached and resisted the urge to call his blade. Covert. Causing a scene in the fae town might cause his target to bolt if she was near or heard about the fight. As much as he wanted to cut the demoness down, he had to remain calm and in control.

She stopped right in front of him, tipped her head up and flashed him a smile that made her ethereally blue eyes shine brightly amidst the sea of black she had daubed around them.

“What’s an angel doing here?” she said in English and looked him up and down.

Her smile grew a little wider when his right hand twitched at his side, eager to call his blade, a reaction he hadn’t been able to hide.

She could see through him.

He had never met a demon who could tell he was an angel before. His wings were hidden, his clothing of mortal fashion, but she knew what he was.

He had a flash of her looking right at him the moment he had entered the square.

Entered the vicinity of her senses.

She had felt him.

“What I am doing here is none of your business.” He schooled his features, hiding his curiosity from her and the slow trickle of other emotions. Not fear. He did not fear her. “I should ask you the same thing, Demon.”

“Ah, but I asked first.” She twirled the gold-to-crimson streak down the right side of her hair around her slender fingers and shrugged her bare shoulders. He refused to look at them. He would not be tempted. Her smile widened. “So… what are you doing here?”

Victoria C. Johnson

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Date of Publication: April 18, 2016

ISBN: 978-0-9973433-0-4

Number of pages: 253
Word Count: 78,311

Book Description:

Goddesses just want to have fun, right?

Peitho’s first job as an Immortal Representative means slumming it at the Shifter Convention, where shifters and supernaturals will be meeting to discuss concerns and build relations. She’s sure it’s going to be boring—all they have to complain about is fleas and territory.

Wait . . . is that a dragon?

Obsessive is a strong word.

Hunter thinks Peitho would make a great addition to his hoard of treasure. Dragons are famously acquisitive; how is he supposed to ignore her? Everyone always says it’s bad to fight your nature.

When shifters begin disappearing from the convention, and bodies quickly appearing, Peitho and Hunter have no choice but to investigate. Will Hunter and Peitho manage to solve the crime while still keeping their hearts intact?

MY REVIEW:
This book was by a new to me author and I really liked this world. There are all kinds of Supernatural beings. Peitho was a great character and her girls are hilarious. And her type of being is new to me. I've not read many books with minor or major goddesses and I do like to read books about different types of paranormal beings so that was a big plus for me. Normally I really like dragons as a hero but Hunter the hero in this book came off as bit of a butt at the beginning but he did redeem himself somewhat by the end. I liked the mystery in this book but it was very easily solved I thought. But that could be me. I am really good at guessing whodunits. Lol. I give this book  3 1/2 stars because it was nice enjoyable read. The way Hunter talked about Peitho was somewhat of a turnoff and that plus the easily solved mystery was what made me give this book a lower score. That being said there are several of her girls that needs their own book and I am hoping that this happens in the near future.

CHAPTER ONE

9:42 a.m., Los Angeles
Covered in bright red blood, Tommaso Fierro stumbled from his sleek black Mercedes and staggered across the litter-filled 7-Eleven parking lot, clutching the front of his sticky gray dress shirt.
“Sonofabitch,” he groaned. This can’t be happening. He’d gone through far too much, survived far too much, only to end up like this.
No. No. No. You are not turning evil again.
But then why had his turquoise eyes—the telltale sign of his godsgiven immortality—turned black? Why did his heart feel like it was being prodded with a red-hot poker?
And where the fuck did all this blood come from? It sure as hell wasn’t his.
He looked at his sticky red hands, suddenly seeing images of the dark-haired woman in his head. She was bound and gagged in his closet, screaming at him through a rope knotted between her lips.
Shit. Please don’t tell me I killed her. Because she was the one. Yes, the one. And no, he couldn’t explain why he had no clear memory of what happened, but he did remember the wave of intense desire he’d felt the moment he spotted her leaving the singles mixer last night—Wait. Was it last night? Everything was a blur after that, like watching a violent movie on a dark screen that sporadically flickered.
Godsdammit! Wouldn’t this just be his godsdamned luck? He finally meets the woman of his dreams—his true mate—only to turn evil for no other reason than the Universe had decided to be a huge bitch and mess with everyone.
More blurry images swarmed his mind: the woman screaming and then…images of him letting her go, only to start chasing her, like a cat playing with a mouse it wanted to torment before the kill.
That is very fucked up.
Tommaso suddenly felt like his skull was splitting open. Aaagh… He shoved his fingers into his sticky short hair, pressing the sides of his head. Then his lungs began closing up. I can’t…breathe. He fell to his knees on the hard asphalt. And godsdammit, he had just gotten his awesome pin-striped slacks back from the tailor. Three hundred bucks just for the hem.
A candy apple red Mustang tore into the parking lot, nearly colliding with a parked car before coming to a tire-screeching halt a few feet in front of him. The driver door popped open and out stepped a familiar face: Zac, God of Temptation.
The sound of Zac’s heavy biker boots thumped toward Tommaso as he tried to keep his vision from blacking out.
“Wow,” said Zac in his usual cocky tone while brushing back his mane of shaggy black hair with his usual affected gesture. “You weren’t joking. You really are turning into a Maaskab—not such a great look for you, by the way.”
Maaskab were an ancient sect of powerful, bloodthirsty Mayan priests who excelled in the dark arts. With their blood-caked dreads, soulless pits for eyes, and grime-covered bodies (they believed bathing robbed them of their powers), they looked like death warmed over, reheated in a microwave, and then deep fried in evil waffle batter. And though they were talented at many malevolent things, manipulating dark energy and enslaving others to do their bidding were their claims to fame, something Tommaso knew firsthand. For two loooong fucking years, he’d been pumped full of Maaskab poisons and used to spy on the gods’ army. It was a miracle he’d escaped, but an even bigger miracle the gods had chosen to help him versus ending his life after he’d been discovered.
Only now, he wasn’t so sure that he’d been cured (or what had happened over the last twenty-four hours or why he was in a 7-Eleven parking lot covered in blood with only a vague recollection of taking his newly found mate captive). In any case, Zac had been the first name that came to mind when he’d called for help.
Perhaps not such a wise choice. Zac wasn’t known for being the most compassionate of the gods. Okay. None of the gods were compassionate. Bat-shit crazy, the whole lot of them.
Tommaso looked up at Zac, seven feet of pure conceited asshole in leather pants. And topless?
“Why aren’t you wearing a shirt?” Tommaso grumbled. Proper attire was essential, even when one was in the process of transforming into a monster, as in his case. Didn’t see him ripping off his clothes and acting uncivilized.
“Casual Friday.” Zac shrugged and then bent to help Tommaso to his feet.
Tommaso’s gaze gravitated toward the hazy figure of a petite blonde standing beside the god, wearing only a pair of enormous flowery granny panties and matching brassiere. He recognized her to be Tula, the new assistant at Immortal Matchmakers, Inc., which was run by Zac and Zac’s insane redheaded mess of a sister, Cimil—the Goddess of the Underworld.
“What’s with Tula’s outfit?” Tommaso mumbled, wondering if he wasn’t dreaming.
“Casual Friday,” Zac answered for Tula. “Did I not just explain that?”
“Okay, you two,” said Tula, in a sugary tone, “let’s get out of here before the police show and suck up another day with all their questions. I’m still trying to get them not to press charges for the singles mixer.”
Tommaso hadn’t stayed for more than a minute at that party, but he could only imagine the long list of reasons the police had been called. Things tended to end up decimated or lit on fire when a group of immortals got in a room and started drinking. Belch, aka the God of Wine and Intoxication, for example, held the all-time record for destroying the most hotels. Five hundred and twenty. All burnt to the ground. All by accident.
Tommaso winced, the pain of whatever searing through his veins becoming almost unbearable. “Take me home.”
“Who said anything about home, compadre?” Zac said. “You’re not safe to roam freely with the masses.”
Zac looked at Miss Flower-Power Panties and instructed her to retrieve Tommaso’s keys from his pocket.
“But Zac,” Tula protested, “a man’s pocket is his private space. Next to his privates.”
She was standing in the middle of a public parking lot in broad daylight, wearing only her undergarments—albeit, very unsexy undergarments, but undergarments nonetheless—and she was concerned about improper behavior?
“My keys are in the ignition,” Tommaso groaned, the splitting pain in his head and heart only worsening. “And I’m sorry about all the blood in the car.” Sorrier than anyone could ever know. Please don’t let it be my mate’s. Please.
Zac bent his head and gave Tommaso a whiff. “Hate to break it to you, evil buddy, but if what’s in your car is the same stuff that’s on your shirt, that’s not blood. Cherry Slurpee is my guess.”
Really? Tommaso looked down at his sticky gray shirt. “I killed a woman and went to get a Slurpee? I am a monster.”
“Do you specifically remember killing someone?” Zac asked.
“No, but—”
Sirens began wailing off in the distance.
“Time to go, big man. Let’s get you to a secure location. We’ll sort it all out later.” Zac turned toward Tula, who was already getting into Tommaso’s Mercedes. “I’ll meet you back at the office.”
“Yes, sir,” she replied.
“And, woman?” Zac said, his deep voice filled with agitation.
“Yes?” she answered.
“The next time I see you, you’d better be wearing proper office apparel. We hold to certain standards at Immortal Matchmakers, Inc. Even on casual Friday.”
“For the last time, I am not going to work naked, Zac!” She slammed the driver-side door shut and zoomed out of the parking lot.
“Humans,” Zac grumbled. “So damned uppity! You know what I mean?” Zac looked at Tommaso, fishing for validation.
Tommaso frowned up at the deity, whose face was becoming a mishmash of swirls. I’m losing my mind. “Sure. Yeah. Wearing clothes is so last year.”
“I know, right?” Zac grabbed Tommaso’s arm to steady him as he began falling sideways. “All right, let’s get you off to jail.”
“You’re taking me to jail?” Tommaso stumbled along toward the Mustang, without a hope or a prayer of getting free. Not in my condition.
“Well, I’m really taking you to Cimil’s basement until we can get you moved to our real prison. But where else would I take an evil, bloodthirsty Maaskab to rot for eternity?”
Rot? Eternity? Oh hell. Maybe Zac was right; that was where he needed to go. Because if Tommaso had harmed a hair on his mate’s head, he deserved to putrefy in a dark dungeon for all time.
But what if she’s not dead? He had seen an image of him untying her and of her running away. Gods be damned. I have to find out what I did… He needed to know she was all right. Okay, and his heart demanded to see her again and beg her forgiveness.
But who was she? He’d only seen her for a moment in passing as she left the mixer—that part was clear. As for how would he go looking for her when he could barely see straight? Not to mention you’re going off to immortal jail.
There was only one person he could turn to.
Gods help me…

Book Blitz and Giveaway: The Queen's Dance, The Emerging Queens Series, Book Three

The Queen’s Dance
The Emerging Queens Series,
Book Three
Jamie K. Schmidt

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Publisher: Entangled

Date of Publication: 5/23/16

Number of pages: 267
Word Count: 63,000

Cover Artist: Fiona Jayde

Book Description:

After newly shifted dragon Queen, Margery Cooper, is rescued from smugglers she has a choice to continue to hunt down the story that nearly killed her when she was an investigative reporter or embrace her royalty and build a court of protectors and studs.  Remy “Champ” Champlain is first on the scene and assigned her protector while she sorts out her affairs.  He wants nothing more to get back to his solitude and his small town, but as an unclaimed dragon he doesn’t get a choice.

The Queen is his responsibility until her court is formalized.  He wants to settle her down right away, but she has this wild hair up her Queenly butt to find out who is smuggling dangerous drugs into the country.

Sparks fly between them, but as she's a sky dragon and he's a water dragon, well she can't swim and he can't fly and those aren't the only differences they're facing.

Excerpt:

The healing burn of the sun pinned Margery to the ground. Her eyes wouldn’t open, but she could see the blazing orange from under her lids. She’d been saved. Pressing her cheek against the sun-warmed grass, she took a deep breath of fresh air for the first time in a week. Coughs racked her body. She was still so weak. A tear leaked out of her eye.
“Please don’t cry, chérie. You’re safe here.”
That was the lake dragon. The one who’d helped rescue her. Margery’s hands clutched the ground. She was no longer on the water, trapped in a smuggler’s hold hidden under the deck of a yacht. No longer lying in her own waste, dying a slow and painful death.
“Where am I?” she asked, her words coming out as a strangled whisper.
“You’re at my home in North Hero, Vermont. It’s very private here.”
He had a sexy way of talking. French Canadian accent, if she wasn’t mistaken. It was comforting, nonthreatening. Margery stretched as the healing sunbeams sank into her core.
“Your kidnappers have been brought to justice.”
They were more than kidnappers. In return for pimping Margery out to Champ, they had wanted him to turn a blind eye to their smuggling operation on his lake.
The doll!
Margery bolted upright and regretted it immediately. “Where is it?” she cried. The sun blinded her, but she didn’t care. She groped around with her hands.
“What?” he said, panic in his voice.
“The Smooshie.”
“What the hell is a—” Champ cut himself off and continued in a more polite tone. “I don’t understand, my Queen.”
Queen? Oh, right.
“The red dragon doll. I had it in my hand when you rescued me. It’s very important.”
“Uh, hold on. Let me check my truck.”
She heard him run.
Great. He probably thought she was an idiot looking for her little dolly.
Rubbing her eyes, Margery tried to stand up. But her legs refused to obey her, muscles trembling as she strained to rise.
The pirates had grabbed her when her camera’s flash malfunctioned and went off while she was taking pictures of their illicit activity—stuffing the dolls with drugs. When they saw her, they tried to kill her. If she’d been human, they would have. But when the bullets tore into her, she had instinctively shifted into her sky dragon form.
She’d only been a dragon for three weeks. Actually, she had always been a dragon, but an ancient curse had stopped her shift at puberty and blocked her dragon magic. When that curse was shattered, all the suppressed Queens shifted into their true forms. It took a lot of getting used to. The first week, all she did was cry and break things. The second week she flew around the world over and over again until sheer exhaustion claimed her. By the time the third week rolled around, Margery figured she’d better get over herself and return to her career as an investigative reporter.

Review: Wolf's Ascension by Lauren Dane

Attacked by werewolves. Mated to the Alpha. Declared a queen. Kari is having an unusual day.

In the Cherchez wolf pack, loyalty is earned, not given. For Andreas, the pull he feels toward Kari cannot be ignored, a physical bond immediate and unbreakable—though Andreas wants to win Kari’s heart as well as her body. But someone isn’t happy about his new mate, and Kari’s just beginning to trust him and the pack when attempted murder threatens their new found happiness.

Andreas brings out the deepest hunger in Kari, a sexy, passionate side of herself she never knew was there. And her new life as werewolf queen is turning out to be surprisingly emotional in other ways, as well. The bond she feels with Andreas extends to the others in the pack—others she’s now bound to defend.

And as the pack’s enemies are about to discover, Kari will do anything to protect her new family.

REVIEW:

I've read this series by Lauren Dane before and I loved it then and I still loved it this time. Kari is an amazing heroine. She's smart, ballsy, funny and loyal to a fault. She is dropped liked Alice into wonderland and quite understandably is completely freaked out by it. Andreas is a wonderful hero and fantastic alpha but quite discombobulated with finding his mate and her being changed without his say so and ahead of schedule. After finally showing Kari that werewolves are real she calms down somewhat and starts falling in love with Andreas and his pack. And just when everything is going smooth a psychopathic killer shows up to play and wants to play with Kari. I love the amazing feeling of family in this series. And the action in this book made for a wonderful read. I give this book 5 stars and if you've not read it you need to. And the others in this series are a must read also. There are several characters in this series that didn't get books before and I'm hoping with crossed fingers and toes that she does so in the near future.
I was given this book via Netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Review: The Undoing by Shelly Laurenston

Book 2 in the Call of Crows series

No one would ever accuse Jace Berisha of having an easy life–considering her husband…you know…killed her. But that was then! Now she fights for mighty Viking gods with the spectacular and vicious Crows.
But things are turning very bad, very quickly because a vengeful, ancient goddess has come into the world with just one thing on her mind–ending it. And the only way they can hope to stop her is if the Crows join forces with their one-time enemies, the Protectors. A Viking Clan created to do nothing but kill every Crow they see.
Thankfully, Protector Ski Eriksen is a peace loving kind of guy. Because the woman he is desperately trying to get close to is the beautiful and not-very-chatty Jace. Battling Nordic clans? Unkillable goddesses? Jace’s mean-spirited dog? None of these things would ever get in the way of a true Viking!

EXCERPT:

Ski pulled open the front door to the Protectors’ Pacific Palisades’ home and blinked in surprise at the panting, sweaty Jacinda Berisha standing there.
“Hi, again.”
“Hell…hell…o.” She took in deep breaths.
“Are you all right?”
She held up her hands for a moment, then placed them on her knees, and bent over at the waist. Ski patiently waited until she could speak again.
“Uh…” she finally got out, “is that…is that job still open?”
“Sure, but—”
“Great…I’ll…geez…” She took more breaths in. “I’ll take it.”
“Are you sure? You seemed pretty adamant that you didn’t—”
I’m taking it.”
“Okay.” Now ski held his hands up, but for a different reason. “Actually, that would be great.”
“Okay, good.” She finally stood straight, but her hand rested against her side like she had a stitch in it. “So if any of the Crows call asking…I’ve taken the job. I’m working with you. Understand?”
“Sure, but…why would they ask?”
“Just…just promise me you’ll tell them that if they call or ask.”
“Of course.”
“Great.”
She turned to go.
“Don’t you want to know how much we’re paying?” he asked casually, fascinated. “Where you’ll be working? How long? What you’ll be doing? Any of these interest you?”
She shook her head. “No. See you tomorrow. I’ll start tomorrow.”
“Okay. Great.”
Then she took off running again.
“What was that about?” Gundo asked from behind him.
“We got her. Jace. She said she’d do the translations for us. She’ll be starting tomorrow.”
“Oh. Okay. What changed her mind?”
“No idea.”
“Where did she go?” he asked, looking out the door.
Ski pointed. “She took off running that way.”
“Running?”
“I could be wrong…but I think she’s running back to Malibu.”
Gundo blinked. “The Bird House is like twenty miles from here.”
“Yeah.”
They stared at each other a second before shrugging and going back into the house.
*****
Jace was running down the sidewalk when she heard a car horn. She refused to look at first, in no mood to get lecherous attacks from idiot men, but the horn didn’t stop. So she put on her best glare and looked over, nasty words in Albanian on her lips. But it was Danski Eriksen.
“I can drive you,” he said through the open passenger window.
With a stitch in her side and sweat pouring down her face, Jace decided that might be a good idea.
Flying she might be good at and could do for hours, but running…clearly not her strong suit.
She walked to the corner and the car stopped in front of her. She got in and closed the door.
The car was nice. Really nice. A top of the line Mercedes. Like her father, Jace had a weakness for cars. She didn’t drive much, though. In fact, she’d only gotten her license two years back when she’d become a Crow. And she’d never driven her sister-Crows anywhere. Ever.
Eriksen pulled back into traffic. When they stopped at light, she brought up the Bird House address on his GPS and let it do the rest of the work.
They drove in silence for a good twenty minutes until Eriksen asked, “So what made you change your mind? About working for us?”
“Does it matter?”
“It might. You’re a Crow. For all I know the whole lot of you could be up to something.”
“We’re not.”
“Well that’s good.”
Jace continued to stare out the window, believing the conversation was over.
It wasn’t.
“So what made you change your mind?”
“Timing.”
“Ah. I see. Timing is always very important.”
“Uh-huh.”
“Will your sisters have a problem with you working with us?”
“I don’t know.”
“Are you worried?”
“No.” But she was worried this conversation would never end. Why wouldn’t it end? Was he going to insist on talking to her while she was working, too? She doubted that. They needed the translation done, so she doubted Eriksen or any of the Protectors would waste precious time by insisting on painful chitchat.
Jace knew that almost all of her sister-Crows would take this time to get to know someone as handsome as Danski Eriksen. Except that Jace didn’t really have anything to say. Nothing of importance anyway.
And she’d promised herself two years ago, when she’d landed in her Second Life that she would never force herself to indulge in “small talk” ever ever ever again.
Even for someone as adorable as Danski Eriksen…who was still talking.
Studying everything around her outside of the car, Jace made her move.
*****
Ski heard the passenger door close and he looked to see the seat beside him empty.
“Did she combat roll into the street?” he asked absolutely no one.
Hitting the brakes, Ski stopped his car and jumped out, gazing over his roof while ignoring the honking horns and cursing coming from the drivers around him.
Mouth open, he watched Jacinda Berisha run across the Pacific Coast Highway—managing somehow not to get mowed down by anyone—and run up John Tyler Drive.
“Thank you!” she yelled out as she kept running. Running like the devil himself was behind her.
“Move your car, asshole!”
Annoyed, Ski snapped his head around. The female driver squeaked in shock and Ski realized he was not keeping control of himself. It was never good to show the Unknowing—as they were called by the Clans—what his kind truly was. They simply couldn’t handle it.
Ski got back into his car and drove until he could make a legal U-turn.
She is really shy, he thought to himself. Because that had to be the answer, right?
He couldn’t be that repulsive, could he? Could anyone?

REVIEW:
This is one of my all time favorite series. Even though this is the second in "this" series there is one that was written before that started my love affair with the Crows. She wrote Hunting Season long ago and I loved that book and always asked when she was going to write more. Even though she didn't continue with the Crows/Ravens in that world she did write more. I really liked the Unleashing but I loved The Undoing.  I especially like the way this one started out. Made me laugh out loud which is not unusual in a Shelly Laurenston book.
Jace is a great character with loads of baggage from her 1st life. Just saying her grandmother is scary as hell. And her ex-hubby is man that needed killing if I ever saw one. Ski was a great hero and his guys was fantastic as long as you don't mistreat their books lol. Sounds like me with mine. This story finished up the story line that started in the first book mostly. But left a few loose ends for the next book.
I am as always so looking forward to her next book. They always guarantee me some laugh out loud moments and lots of giggling. I give this one 5 stars and I was given this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

If you've not read these you can get the first one for .99 cents @ amazon. Here are the links for all the Crow books. I think that you'll love them and want them all so here are all the links lol.
