Find out more about this fall must-read below!

Hello!  Thank you for joining me!  I’m very happy to be here at Book Crazy Scrapbook Mama, celebrating the upcoming release of my time travel romance RENDEZVOUS WITH YESTERDAY.  Book Crazy Scrapbook Mama has posed a fun question today:

What is the weirdest thing that has ever happened to you as an author?

There have been a few things over the years that were unexpected . . . like the reactions we garnered from passersby while shooting the trailers for some of my Immortal Guardians books.  (It’s not every day that you see immortal warriors with swords battling vampires in the park.)  But—aside from some emails and Facebook messages I found to be head-scratchers-—the things that come to mind are more funny than weird.  For instance . . .

When I’m not writing, I work in the local independent film industry.  I don’t do much film work any more because it takes too much time away from writing.  But earlier in my career, something funny happened while I was working production as both a script supervisor and a special effects and special effects makeup artist.  During production, there tend to be a lot of periods of inactivity while the director confers with the DP or actors and the production and lighting crew move the equipment around to set it up for the next shot.  At this particular time, a submission deadline loomed close.  So I printed out a copy of my latest manuscript and took it with me every day to edit between scenes.  (I tend to catch more errors when I read hard copies than I do when I edit manuscripts on the computer screen.)

We were on location in a building with a nice lounge for employees on this particular night.  I was in the lounge during one of the aforementioned lulls in activity, reading through my manuscript at a table while the actors chatted nearby, when one of the crew members told me the director was ready for me downstairs.  I left my manuscript on the table, went downstairs and did my blood-and-guts makeup thing.  When I was finished, I returned to the lounge and discovered two of the actors frantically shuffling a dozen or so pages of my manuscript together and putting them on top of the rest of the pile, which remained on the table.  Upon seeing my raised eyebrows, both began to apologize profusely and said they had accidentally knocked the pages to the floor.  I assured them it was okay and told them not to worry about it. Accidents happen.  And with some of the bizarre things I’ve seen cast and crewmembers carrying around on sets, knocking things over is par for the course.

They nodded, handed me the papers, and apologized again, but kept giving me the oddest, almost wide-eyed looks.  I thought maybe they were worried I was going to go off on them Jack-Nicholson-in-The-Shining-style or something, so I smiled and again told them not to worry about it.  They nodded, then joined some actors who were sitting at table across the lounge.

I sat down and started putting the pages back in order.  But I couldn’t help but notice that the two actors kept giving me that weird look.  After a whispered conversation I couldn’t overhear, the actors who were sitting with them started giving me the same look—the sort of “Who is this person?” look you might expect them to give a man after snooping through his briefcase and finding a photo of him wearing a diaper, holding a rattle, and sucking on a pacifier while his wife bent him over her lap and spanked him.  I couldn’t figure out what in the world had inspired those looks until I finished organizing the manuscript pages that had fallen and realized they formed one of the sizzling love scenes in the novel.  Apparently the actors had read a few of the pages after knocking them to the floor and were shocked that I had written them.  LOL.

I do tend to be rather quiet and unobtrusive in public.  But as they say, it’s always the quiet ones you have to watch.  ;-)

Modern-day bounty hunter Bethany Bennett helps her brother track two fugitives to a forest outside of Houston, Texas. But what should have been a routine apprehension of two bail skippers spirals out of control and ends in violence. After Beth and her brother are both seriously injured, a mysterious figure suddenly looms over her. And, when the smoke clears, Beth finds herself not only in another place, but in another time.   As Lord Robert, Earl of Fosterly, attempts to identify and track down the nameless enemy who has been plaguing his lands and people with violence, the most peculiar woman stumbles into his path. Small, vulnerable, yet possessed of a bold, fiery spirit and wicked sense of humor, she persists in dubbing Robert and his men members of something called a medieval reenactment group . . . until she sees his castle and labels herself mad. It seems bounty hunter Bethany Bennett has come to him from the future, bringing with her laughter and chaos, swiftly winning the hearts of his people and inspiring within him a love he thought he would never experience again. But when Robert discovers a way for her to return to her time, will the love they share be enough to keep them together?
