Review: After the Dark by Cynthia Eden

In this gripping new series by New York Times bestselling author Cynthia Eden, a disgraced FBI profiler must save her reputation by stopping a sadistic killer she knows all too well.
Former FBI agent Samantha Dark was one of the most respected profilers in the bureau, an expert on the twisted minds and dark hearts of the most depraved criminals. But when her own former lover turned out to be the serial killer she was hunting, Samantha’s career was destroyed. Blamed for the FBI’s failure on the complex case, Samantha fled Washington, DC, for the quiet anonymity of Alabama.
Now an all-too-familiar killer is hunting once again. She can catch the sadistic assassin, but that means putting her trust in her former partner, Blake Gamble. Ex-military, Blake is tough, protective, precise. With her entire life on the brink, she knows he wants her back in the FBI…and possibly more.
But someone else wants her, too. A threat is waiting in the dark, a killer who has set his sights on the ultimate trophy victim--Samantha.

I have to say this has to be the most twisted story I've read in a long time. OMG the real bad guy truly was dark twisted piece of psychopathic work.  Samantha was an excellent profiler and spot on in her profiles but he got close and flew under her radar because he was an old lover now friend. After he got away the FBI or specifically her boss threw through her under the bus even thought it wasn't her fault. She moves back to her hometown and takes a job there. And then another woman shoes up dead with a very familiar MO. And there is a tape that makes her old partner Blake come looking for her. Because it's either a copy cat or the real deal her old friend/lover. Blake comes looking for her to get her take on which it is.
Unfortunately this is what the new killer wants because she stopped Cam and that was his mentor. He wants to kill Samantha to punish her for that. But Cam doesn't want that. So he comes looking also.  Now there are two killers in her small town and she and Blake are determined to stop them both.  This would be hard enough but with them falling in love and Cam incensed about that it is much harder. He is determined to kill Blake and get Sam back.
I'm not going to tell what happens in the end. Just suffice to say it's a HEA for Sam and Blake. I was gifted this book by the author in exchange for consideration of a review and I give it 5 stars. I must say this was the best Romantic suspense book I've read in a while.
