THE AFTERLIFE IS ONLY THE BEGINNING.
The world is not the way it was. The dead have risen and constantly attack the living. The powerful Church of Real Truth, in charge since the government fell, has sworn to reimburse citizens being harassed by the deceased. Consequently, there are many false claims of hauntings from those hoping to profit. Enter Chess Putnam, a fully-tattooed witch and freewheeling Debunker and ghost hunter. She’s got a real talent for nailing the human liars or banishing the wicked dead. But she’s keeping a dark secret from the Church: a little drug problem that’s landed her in hot and dangerous water.
Chess owes a murderous drug lord named Bump a lot of money. And Bump wants immediate payback. All Chess has to do is dispatch a very nasty species of undead from an old airport. But the job involves black magic, human sacrifice, a nefarious demonic creature, and crossing swords with enough wicked energy to wipe out a city of souls. Toss in lust with a rival gang leader and a dangerous attraction to Bump’s ruthless enforcer, and Chess begins to wonder if the rush is really worth it. Hell, yeah.
I have been hearing a lot of buzz around the net about this one and was intrigued. A heroine who's a drug addict who works for a church was not my ordinary urban fantasy. And since I was not really expecting to like this book quite frankly I was very pleasantly surprised to discover that it is a fantastic story. The characters are not perfect and the rules of this world sucks but what can you expect after what happened. By the end of the book I was so pulling for Chess and Terrible (what a name anyways) to get together. Lex may be better looking but he comes off kind of smarmy to me. Even though there was nothing which blatantly screamed he's a bad guy. He's just feels slimy if you know what I mean. And I think there is more to Terrible that meets the eye. I am hoping that his character keeps developing and growing. I've immediately added both of the next two books in this series to my wish list. My birthday is coming soon so I won't have long to wait lol.
I give this book a 4 stars.

Infinity by Sherrilyn Kenyon - A Review
Product Description
At fourteen, Nick Gautier thinks he knows everything about the world around him. Streetwise, tough and savvy, his quick sarcasm is the stuff of legends. . .until the night when his best friends try to kill him. Saved by a mysterious warrior who has more fighting skills than Chuck Norris, Nick is sucked into the realm of the Dark-Hunters: immortal vampire slayers who risk everything to save humanity.
Nick quickly learns that the human world is only a veil for a much larger and more dangerous one: a world where the captain of the football team is a werewolf and the girl he has a crush on goes out at night to stake the undead.
But before he can even learn the rules of this new world, his fellow students are turning into flesh eating zombies. And he’s next on the menu.
As if starting high school isn't hard enough. . .now Nick has to hide his new friends from his mom, his chainsaw from the principal, and keep the zombies and the demon Simi from eating his brains, all without getting grounded or suspended. How in the world is he supposed to do that?
I have heard mixed reviews about this book and finally broke down and bought it. If you've already read the dark hunters novels by Sherrilyn Kenyon this book turns that world up on its ear. This means what you thought you know will be changing and I liked it. There were lots of old favorite characters that were way younger than what you've always seen them as. Tabitha, Kieran, and Ash are only a few that showed up in this book. And OMG Bubba is a hoot. I haven't laughed so much reading a book in a while. I am so looking forward to the next one. This book was also one big thrill ride what with zombies, daimans, and plenty of teen angst to go around. And Hot dayumn Simi finally got to break out the bbeque sauce.
I give this book 5 stars and it makes my must read. I'll let you know what my 1-4 and 20 yr old thinks since they both want to read it since I laughed my way through it.

Review Web of Lies by Jennifer Estep
Curiosity is definitely going to get me dead one of these days. Probably real soon.
I'm Gin Blanco.
You might know me as the Spider, the most feared assassin in the South. I’m retired now, but trouble still has a way of finding me. Like the other day when two punks tried to rob my popular barbecue joint, the Pork Pit. Then there was the barrage of gunfire on the restaurant. Only, for once, those kill shots weren’t aimed at me. They were meant for Violet Fox. Ever since I agreed to help Violet and her grandfather protect their property from an evil coal mining tycoon, I’m beginning to wonder if I’m really retired. So is Detective Donovan Caine. The only honest cop in Ashland is having a real hard time reconciling his attraction to me with his Boy Scout mentality. And I can barely keep my hands off his sexy body. What can I say? I’m a Stone elemental with a little Ice magic thrown in, but my heart isn’t made of solid rock. Luckily, Gin Blanco always gets her man . . . dead or alive.
I love this series. But this blurb is not all together accurate. I wish it was but you can't have every thing. Gin does meet a sexy new man in this book but I can' help thinking that he's too good to be true. This is the second book in Ms. Estep's
spider series and to me this one didn't suffer in any way for being the sophomore book in this series. I think this one was better than the first and Gin is evolving into what she always was which was not really an assassin but a problem solver. She just sometimes permanently solves problems which works for me lol. I give this one 4 1/2 stars.
I am so looking forward to reading the next one. Thankfully I won't have long to wait. Venom comes out on September 28, 2010.
