Internal Affairs be damned, Detective Amanda Werner's ditching protocol to hunt the vigilante whose bullet landed her on the bench. But this is no vendetta. Evidence suggests he's the zealot offing corrupt public officials--the same zealot who's promised to set the city ablaze by week's end--and she'll risk her career and her life to save her hometown. Too bad she can't find anything stronger than Kevlar to guard her heart against her primary suspect: a masked man with a telepathic German shepherd, unstable supernatural hearing, and lips that invite a whole different brand of investigation.

All businessman Ryan McLelas, a.k.a. Klepto, wants is redemption. But even if Amanda could forgive his itchy trigger finger, Ryan still has to convince her that his alter ego's no serial killer. No small task, with syndicate-paid police officers turning up among the dead. He'd better keep his own syndicate ties close to his chest and Amanda even closer, because if Klepto is unmasked while he's hunting the real killer, their passionate affair could mark Amanda as the next dirty cop on the hit list.

About Cera Daniels

Cera Daniels PicCera Daniels writes paranormal, science fiction, and steampunk romance. Sexy superheroes. Delicious shifters. Infernal machines. Sometimes behind the same cover. Her heroes are broken and often on the wrong side of good, their worlds are crumbling, but the love her characters find in all that chaos stands on an unshakable foundation.

She hails from South Carolina with her own superhero husband, daughter, and three cats who don't think they're cats at all. Life is especially good in her world when there's Game of Thrones, Shadowrun and board games, chocolate coffee, and an overabundance of yarn on tap.

Interview:

1.      How did you do research for your book?

For the Relek City series, I attended a police academy for writers. It was AMAZING, and ran the full gambit of public services and procedures—some of which got to be immediately applied to my draft at the time.  (Indeed, any inaccuracies in my books from all that learning is a result of me spinning things as it fits the more dystopian Relek City world.)  I learned that certain scenes I wanted to write would have resulted in my characters' deaths—and how to keep them alive instead.

2.      Where do you get inspiration for your stories?

EVERYWHERE!

3.      Do you have another profession besides writing? What is it?

I am a copy editor for other authors, and format manuscripts for ebooks and print on the side.  After a year of freelancing I'm also back to being a full-time technical writer.  For the day job, I write software manuals, test computer programs, and basically serve as an interpreter between programmers and people who use their products.

4.      Do you write every day? What’s your day like?

Things have changed recently—the kidlet is now in school!  I do write every day, but some days it's new stuff, some days it's fun stuff, and some days it's revisions—which take much longer and can be much more grueling.  I spend 4 hours a day in my books, and then the rest of my work day is split between various platform tasks: blog tour content, social media conversations, hanging out with my street team, researching for a book or for the business side of the writing world, and designing newsletters.  With a day job, the time to work gets quite cramped—so I do a lot of planning to make sure I hit mini-deadlines as well.

On days when I'm authoring instead of working as an editor or technical writer:

1.      I spend my morning going over the school day with the little one, getting her ready and her brain working.
2.      After returning from the bus stop hike, I breakfast. (And also remove the new kitten from where she is sitting inside one of my big plants, trying to eat all the leaves.) If I didn't get sleep the night before because someone had nightmares, I take a nap. :D  And then it's coffee time.
3.      Email, and a smidge of social media. I clear my to-reply list for marketing events and content, reply to some fanmail, then congratulate myself with an exercise break.  Which is usually dancing. Badly. ;)
4.      With my brain juiced up from energy and all the non-fic types of writing cleared out, my muse usually turns on and I get a good hour of writing without interruption—and it's lovely.
5.      Then there's lunch.
6.      My muse goes to sleep after food so it's a good time for me to work on more business stuff—like the research and moneydollars number crunching—unless I'm in revisions.  If we're talking revisions, my inner editor is raring to go.
7.      Bus stop pick up of the little one!  Then it's back to the writing, while she's snacking and doing her homework.  Since I don't do coffee after 2, I race against my previous day's numbers and pull out all stops to get a bit of extra juice at the end of the day.
8.      When the alarm for work-over goes off, we start prep work for dinner.  Hopefully, that's just sides to go with the slow cooker or casserole, and I've planned a dish that can cook while we clean and take care of the other chores—because if not, then whatever I've brilliantly decided to slave over will be burned and inedible.  I don't...stove...well. ;)
9.      Dinner, little's bedtime routine, yoga, then I get to catch up on TV shows and social media. I emerge in time to realize that I've lost hours where I could've been doing something productive....and it's past my own bedtime.

5.      What’s your favorite meal?

One where I'm sitting at the table with the family, and maybe a friend or two.  (And hey, if it's a meal I didn't try to cook on the stove: BONUS!) ;)  The husband is a fantastic cook, and our family favorite is a super delicious spaghetti. *melts*
